A skateboarding accident is also how Stephen Carpenter of Deftones got started playing guitar. :skateboard:

Fellow skater here too!

Congrats on the live show!!!

I didn’t know that. He’s a great guitarist!! Recently a live video of them playing milk of the madonna popped into my yt-recommendations and they absolutely killed it. A great band and Abe is one of the most underrated drummers of all time.

I can’t really say that I was ever a real skater. I started at the age of 33 and sucked so bad hahaha. It was fun as long as it lasted though. And without that accident I would have missed the things I enjoy the most today, synths.

Thank you so much man!!

Will do. I was thinking to upload all stuff i made while being here on this forum in the last 2 years or so, just need to arrange them in cohesive album, and there is allot of tracks. It needs to make sense, at least to me.

I’d love to, I fucking love d&b and jungle, but I absolutely suck at making the stuff.

Yeah yeah.

It’s funny, I was just thinking about the first challenge thread I took part in on here like 8 years ago or whatever. It was a Christmas track challenge and I did a really shit Gabber track on my Digitakt.

Track’s lost to the ether now. Shame really, was pretty funny.

I’ll do one of your challenges after I’ve finished the album later this month.

Probably.

I’ll commit too, can’t not now.

been doing a lot of my usual kitchen-sink sampling for my hip-hop tracks and applying them to my budding jungle alter-ego tracks. i’ve honestly been having a ton of fun just listening to the records i’m digging for and accidentally spending hours playing music instead of making it :joy:

it does feel good to know i’m still just as much in love with the jazz, and the fusion rock and weird soul joints i’m using for what they are separate from seeing them as just sample material. it’s having an impact on how i’m putting stuff together, trying to see how i can make a song sound like a Don Ellis or a Hank Levy arrangement, for example, while keeping the headnod factor i love from the hip-hop side of everything.

i feel blessed that i’ve only gotten more into making beats and stuff as i’ve gotten older, and that passion’s changed form and expression in order to keep up with that thing that makes my ears twitch. being on this forum’s definitely helped me push my MPC 1K to the limits of what it can do, and made me wanna experiment with all types of electronic styles i never woulda touched as a teenager (on the MPC itself, at least. my Ableton days were full of attempts at making french house and jungle, lol.)

thought it would be kinda fun to share some of my cringey old rap music. i just remembered the password to the 11 year old youtube account.

this track was done by me and my buddy, LP, on a D.R.O. beat we bought. first time actually paying for a beat, we felt pretty legit. this was around what i consider to be peak soundcloud rapper time, so we were basically trying to be Bones, $UICIDEBOY$, Goth Money, Goth Boi Clique, etc. filmed using the old handycam i used to make puppet movies on as a small boy. filmed at our musician trap house.

this one was about a year later. i think i got a little better on this one, but again, my look and confidence dont match or support the kind of music. tbh if my hair was longer like it is now i could give it a pass. this one was on a beat that an acquaintance made. filmed on the handycam again and then i edited it along with my buddy/roommate, bitchnixon.

this one is on another beat from the same guy as the last one. i think this song is one of my favorites of mine. i was sick as hell, likely from a combo of alcohol poisoning/general illness, and my voice was super scratchy. i think i even recorded this in my college’s professional recording studio. i remember feeling like i was a mf’n boss in the booth.

this one was with me and my buddy/roommate Bahous, he made the beat and also rapped on it. this was a fun one to play at shows. our beats went buck and we just yelled so the energy was up up up.

this was another fun one for shows. we considered it the posse cut, had most of the members of the group on the track. bitchnixon produced this one, then we had me, bahous, LP and partial member/our weed dealer SeanChiefs on it. one time when we played this at a house show SeanChiefs was yakking out the window in between bars but he still did his whole verse. wild times.

then this track is what i consider to be the best all around bit of output from me and my buddy, LP. this was from 7 years ago. we were out of college and living together in another friends party house we made this right before i moved out of the country for a year. i made the beat, my buddy rapped on it.

man, to have the time and creative social circle where these kinds of things were relatively easy to make happen. if anything, digging back into the past makes me want to get collaborating with my buds again. nowadays we get together and jam with samplers and stuff but i do miss the goal of making a whole track.
