Can the A4 be aggressive?

After getting my feet wet with a few Elektron boxes I have to say I totally understand the appeal. Im absolutely loving the AR and Im curious about the A4.

I tend to make some more aggressive sounding techno that leans towards industrial and EBM and Im wondering if any A4 users use it for that purpose. Can it be the beast I want it to be?

Thanks in advance.

absolutely

Yes, when I tried to turn it off the other day, it bit me.

Unison helps a good bit when you need something more up front.

With the lfos gnarling on amp, pulse width, freq cutt off, distortion amount and pitch it can be down right cantankerous. But its agressive like my sub37…angry yet still smooth and buttery.

Like the oscillators are hissy spitty bubbling hot chip fat and the filters are a thick fireproof wet blanket that stops the oil from spilling over and burning the house down. If that makes sense.

Aggressive definately has a sliding scale…Its not agressive like massive or fm8 or nasty like a digital synth can be…but its more agressive than say a blofeld or virus at the level of osc being driven into filter. if that is what you are gowing for…?

In fact any examples of what you are wanting to create??? So we know what you mean by aggressive???

hahaha thanks for that. you kind of nailed it. im literally looking to replace my Virus Classic with the A4. Im not looking for something thats too off the rails, but something with some real bite.

I also produce music between electro, punk and ebm. As @AdamJay said earlier, using unison mode makes the synth pretty aggressive.

I did this EP with A4/RY only, no fx added afterward, just the sound of the mixer.

Released this year on Enfant Terrible

Every synth needs exploring, but with every bit of capability packed into the synth, it seems like a silly question tbh. You have two resonant filters at the verrrry least.

Maybe it would be easier if you explain what kind of aggesive timbre you are/would be interested in…?

loa pretty much answered my question but thanks y’all

You can use ENV2 on the second filter and have more complex sounds.
AM and Feedback OSC are also whole areas…
Also, percussive sounds are really fun to dial, with the snappy exp envelopes.

I feel like I will never exhaust this synth possiblies

Can you be?

I’ve read that the mk II would be voiced more suitably for aggressive sounds? IME the mk I has a softness to the sound that is hard to escape (maybe one indeed needs to use unison for getting rid of this mellowness)

Recorded this video some years ago.
I played around with the feedback OSC.
gently aggressive maybe :slightly_smiling_face:

Depends what flavour of aggressive you want. It’ll do nasty, aggressive, harsh etc. Assign a ton of performance controls and you can make it wild. But the raw sound doesn’t have much fatness compared to a moog or something. So it won’t do weighty aggressiveness so well.
