Can someone explain the "using Pattern 1-4 with Part 1, 5-8 w/ Pt 2, 9-12 w/ Pt 3, 13-16 w/ Pt 4" in use?

Pretty much what it says. You can use the comb filter and the delay fx for simple karplus synthesis on the octatrack combined with parameter locks and or the lfo designer you can turn any audio source into a pitch sequence.

Ned rush explores the technique a bit in one of his vids.

In the Octa mk1 pdf manual page 17 and Octa mk2 pdf manual also page 17 is an overview of banks, patterns, parts, scenes, arrangenents, tracks and machines.

Parts

4 parts are available to each bank. A part contains machine assignments and their associated samples, track parameter settings, FX assignments as well as 16 scenes. A pattern is always linked to a part. Changing parts will let the new part be controlled by the active pattern.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. So at what point does it make sense to start jumping to a new bank instead of a new pattern? Besides having run out of patterns?

I did this for example last night when I had all 4 parts full and a couple patterns but I wanted to take what were stems and start from scratch with most of them. The kick I kept pretty much the same, but I’m then using my pad as a stab, Playing slices of drum loops. At the point where I break into a new Bank, there is essentially nothing in common with rhe previous bank except for BPM and perhaps if I copy a pattern what is remaining of the previous pattern.

But at this point anything I do in a new bank is non-destructive to previous banks and patterns. Is that correct?

I’m trying to avoid as I go down the rabbit hole of improvisation that I dont wreck earlier patterns accidentally.
