im building a set up for producing/performing pop songs with my partner who is a singer. so we have set song structures to work with but i want the freedom be expressive with tweaking the elektronics live.
so i was thinking to have the arranger on my OT programmed with all the song structures, and get that to control an external drum machine (analogue rytm) and synth (A4 or MinilogueXD) via midi. so the OT arranger takes care of the pattern changes across the board, leaving me to have fun tweaking sounds.
im still really new to all this gear and never done this before, so i thought id put it out there for advice from those with more experience. do you think this will work? is this a good idea? am i missing anything obvious?
reading through other threads it sounds like the arranger on the OT can change the patterns of other elektron gear, by synching up with ‘song mode’ (in the A4 for example). im wondering if that would also work with other sequencers such as on the MinilogueXD?)
It would be really helpful to know this in theory before i buy stuff (A4 or Minilogue) on blind faith, and realise it doesnt work () !
ok thanks. i wouldnt have known what to look for. so ‘pc messages’ (program change messages?) is a common/universal standard for communicating between hardware?
The OT can send MIDI Program Change (PC) messages either when it changes its pattern, or when it changes to a pattern that is linked to a different Part.
The Analog Four can change pattern when it receives a PC message.
The minilogue xd can change program when it receives a PC message; each program can store sequence data.
