In terms of audio quality, no.

That said, it might be good to spring for something a step up from the cheapest possible option. A lot of my cheap cables have gotten scratchy with minimal use.

Speaking of which, does anyone have good recommendations for durable cables that aren’t crazily expensive?

Short cables: practically no difference.
Long cables (+ 2m - i.e. OT out to mixer) test before use.

it depends on the amount of cables you have. If you only have the few cables that you need to connect the A4 to the OT and the OT to your speakers / computer, then it makes no difference.

But the more cables you have in place the more those cheap cables start crosstalking as they usually arent shielded that well. And if the cables are longer it makes a difference as well as sound quality can degrade there.

I have the MD, the A4 and the OT all hooked up with their Main and individual outputs to my Soundcraft M8 which in turn has some other stuff connected on its AUXs as well … and i noticed a little bit of noise as i had all the cheap cables on there - all of them were short too.

I then switched them all to cables from Cordial with Neutrik Plugs and now i have no problem at all anymore. Here in Germany such a balanced cable is at around 10 € to 20 € depending on the length. So its not too much.

In the US I have had success with cheaper cables from Monoprice. As a point of reference none have been over 2 meters…

more or less no as long as you make sure it has very little slack (make sure isn’t a lot of cable left over, especially in a loop)

I use balanced cables throughout. All of them are cordial which work fine, except the cables that go from my sound card to speakers, they’re vovox (and that actually makes a difference)

+1 for Monoprice. I recently recabled my studio thanks to them. I’ve used their balanced cables up to ten feet with no issues. Quality cables on a budget; recommend if you live in the US for sure.
