I just wanted to use one of the many knobs on my MIDI controller to control my Mac’s volume — and not only the system output, but Apple Music separately too.
Turns out there was no simple way to do that (or at least none that I could find). So I built one: MIDI Volume Control App
Now I’ve got one knob mapped to system volume and another to Apple Music — completely independent. It’s become one of those tiny quality-of-life things I use constantly while working or listening to music.
No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions — just a small app that does its job. Plug in, hit MIDI Learn , twist, done.
I’d love your feedback, and I’m happy to invest more time if it proves useful to others too.
It also got me thinking about what else could be controlled with MIDI on macOS. Any ideas? Wouldn’t be hard to expand now that the foundation’s there.
PS: I found the menu-bar so useful when I’m away from my MIDI gear that I turned it into a dedicated app for those who do not need the MIDI portion: Menu Volume – System & Music is minimal Mac menu-bar volume controller adding smooth sliders for system and Apple Music volume.
