It’s pretty great, right?! I finally was able to get this intro Grant Green lick that has eluded me for years. Looping (setting the A-B markers) and slowing to 50% really helped. Really loving this thing! Like you said, time stretch algo isn’t the best at 50%, but good enough to get the job done.
There’s some talk that the Katana Go has (strangely) already been discontinued or at least won’t be available for up to six months, so grab 'em while they’re hot!
Damn, this sucks. I absolutely love mine, but app support is critical, and they were supposed to bringing user patch sharing to the app in June. I will be ticked if they discontinue app support.
Pairing hardware products to apps is one of the worst trends to come along. It has stopped me from buying more Universal Audio products.
I just went and confirmed I have my receipt and product warranty card, etc, in case there is a recall. Apparently they are being pulled from shelves according to Reddit.
I absolutely love this thing so it would be a shame if it were to get abandoned. You really do need the app to edit it and use a lot of the features.
It’s actually been amazing for practice. I use it all the time for looping and slowing down parts to practice. Also, it’s great for silent practice. My wife has been having to do a bunch of online meetings lately and I can’t really make noise, so the GO has been a perfect way to fill that time. I’d definitely have to find something to replace it, but I don’t think there is anything out there I would like as much.
I’m not sure if there is an English announcement, but I found a Japanese one. It says that demand is way more than they expected and they have a huge backlog of orders but no way of securing the necessary parts, so they are canceling all orders.
Strange that they would pull them from the shelves though. Something doesn’t add up.
If they do guarantee app support for the next few years, I think I might keep mine even if they don’t add new features or implement the tone exchange they promised.
It’s a brand new product of a super successful line (Katana) of products and all the reviews are stellar. Love mine (which just arrived a week ago after ordering at release) and it works perfectly as is, definitely no reason to recall it.
I can’t imagine they would abandon the idea after all the positive press and sold out orders. It sounds like they can’t build more for some supply reason but that doesn’t mean they can’t come out with a 1.1 edition using the same software with some physical components swapped.
While I was at the 404 Day event at the Roland Store I asked what the deal was with the Katana Go. They said the reason it got discontinued is that they were unable to source the big encoder knob. Other than getting rid of that everything is the same and they have like 6-years worth of stock of that encoder for repairs.
