Bluesky (Social Media Site)

I agree about the first part, and that’s a shame so many people are forced to do that. We could only dream about a platform where people from everywhere in the world can share and discuss idead.

Altough, that kind of platform with millions of persons attracts people that want to use it for influence and become richer.

Unfortunately it lead to it being used for political goals and misinformation.

I don’t think there can be any debate that advance forward when both sides are not treated the same way by the host.

…hmmmpf…am i right ?..am i wrong ?..would u please tell me, so i can get along…

sad enough, that these days, it needs rich folks to give people their social media…
really time to overcome this rule of…if the product is for free, U are the product…

mastodon and co really need to become mainstream…united nations should take care of the existence of some real social media market place for exchanging opinions and ideas…

since, like it or not, bluesky’s recent rise in popularity and numbers is nothing but the result of another actual political gag reflex…it’s nothing but the same thing…end of all days…it’s just another tribal comfort zone…while no one can tell for sure, if u end up on the right or wrong side of history…no matter how much we whish we could…we’re all just humans, overlooking in any best case scenario nothing but a very short time frame of one single century…that’s nothing but a blip in time…

so, no matter which tribe, which side, which what not else…for now, it’s all just human whishful thinking to be, of course, on the good side of history…but holy moly, what do we really know…before we tend to forget again…

I disagree. In essence, its distinguishing feature, is that you DON’T get overwhelmed by ONE kind of propaganda. In contrast to twitter, where studies have shown the political bias has come in since the Musk takeover.

i think i would choose to consume zero propaganda when given the choice

…wait a second…

as far as i remember, twitter/x was pretty woke all over place and in ur face, just yesterday…

today, it’s a reactive hyper conservative nightmare, also right in ur face…

let’s feel better sick of ALL this twit for/or twat…

yesterday is always fighting against tomorrow…but tomorrow always comes…all progress, all history always goes three steps forward, then two steps back…again…

if we start to learn see through all that and think to ourselves, this sux…

…we better stop acting on first reflex and always just wanna be right while also wanna stay in our tribal comfortzones…since that way, WE, as a species, will never find any balance…and end of all days, nature/evolution/creation always goes for balance…so we better fight for balance…and realize, at least for now, it’s a constant battle with ourselves and with others, we better don’t avoid…
as long we don’t get that, we’re doomed…“simple” as that…

so for now, the sky might feel blue-r on bluesky…but propaganda is propaganda…wether it’s coming from the “left” or the “right”…

meanwhile in europe, all those right wing leaning parties, once coloured and associated with the colour brown, turn their banners into blue…so, just as a little "fun"fact…blue is the new brown…
personally, i don’t know which version of facism 3.0 frightens me more…left, right, left, right…
doesn’t matter as long we march along…?

wrote a song, a few years back…title is “good old propaganda”

1st verse

all we hear is propaganda
from the left as from the right
good old propaganda
we’re in the middle of a fight

2nd verse

all we see is propaganda
to blurry all our view
good old propaganda
always hot but never new

the hook

propaganda, good old propaganda
to keep us separated

…but hey, this is a place for likeminded people with common intrests on music production gear…
too many good reasons, why one of the house rules are…no politics…let’s keep it this way…

a thread specificly about a new social media platform, which exists for pure counter reactive political reasons in first place while never the less is also NOT unbiased, won’t do any good trick HERE…

Not everything has to be a debate! Not everything has to be an argument!

I’d say for the sake of this conversation, keep it about the topic at hand.

Surveillance capitalism is bad. People like Jack Dorsey are also oligarchs with entirely too much control over how we all connect to one another. Sure. Yes. I agree. And yeah, I don’t know about getting national governments let alone the UN involved in running social media platforms, but what corporations are doing now has been a disaster.

I don’t see what any of these points have to do with people like me not wanting to spend time with Nazis or hang out on the platform of a Nazi sympathizer. This was the guy that brought Nick Fuentes back to Twitter. It was one of the first things he did when he bought it. This is a guy who censors the word “cisgender” because he doesn’t respect the very existence of trans people. It’s not even as deep as not wanting to be “on the wrong side of history.” I don’t think my grandkids will be asking when I finally deactivated my account. I just don’t want to be there. I’m also not on Gab or Truth Social.

And I’m sorry but I think it’s just ridiculous that you keep using the phrase “tribal comfort zone.” We’re talking about Nazis. I don’t see how it’s somehow a bad thing that I would be more comfortable in a Nazi-free zone. I don’t think that I lose anything by avoiding places where Groypers hang out.

For the third time, this is not about wanting to be right, this is wanting to be free from platform BIAS. I have not yet encountered bias FROM THE PLATFORM on bluesky. In contrast, my experience on twitter is biased to what the billionaire owner wants me to hear, and that notion of mine has been supported by studies.

Sorry, I’ve contributed to this … I suspect we’ll see moderator intervention soon.

People love being told what to do, what to think and what to say. Since the beginning of humanity.

Complete falsehood.

…no bad thing at all…we all like our comfortzones and we’re all tribal by nature…

nothing to pick here, to take personal…but “nazi” and “conservative” and “right wing mindset” gets all mixed up lately, to one same thing, while ain’t the same at all…

but humans tend to like shortcuts…simple answers to complex issues…and gosh, how much we love framings, wordings, labels, narratives…and to be right…and to have the last word…
puuuh, we think we’re so advanced already, but still, we gotta long learning curve and winding road iahead of us, until we finally can call ourselves the adult in the room…

Could not disagree more. It’s really not that hard. I believe there’s a Steve Albini quote about this but I can’t find it at the moment.

I didn’t mix them up. I said that Elon Musk is a Nazi sympathizer. I didn’t say conservatives. I didn’t say right leaning people. I didn’t even say he’s a Nazi. I said what is undeniably true.

…look at my first comment…
…look what we made out of it…

for now, we, humans, are at the top of all food chains…that’s not a given…that’s just a momentary thing…
right now, we live in the year 2025 after christ…that’s how we count…that’s a little fix point and how we define our place in time…

and some still think, it’s up to us, to choose if we end up on the right or wrong side of history…

humans are a funny species…got no clue how flawed they are…and what short term memory could really mean…

Don’t feed the trolls, folks!

Remember they thrive on engagement.

Bluesky is nice! It’s replaced the old twitter’s role for my job (professional around-the-water-cooler conversation and updates for academics). Though I’ve luckily never had to use them, I appreciate that it has robust anti-harassment features. The transition from Twitter to X saw major changes to moderation and the treatment of hate speech, misinformation, bots, etc, and most people in the fields I care about switched over last year.

One feature that might be useful for folks here is the Starter Packs: these are user-contributed lists of contributors to specific topics, and those might be helpful for finding, say, fellow enthusiasts of certain genres/subgenres of music.

These are cool, but I recommend being selective with them. I added a pretty big one early on and I’m still feeling the urge to prune my follow lists.

100% this. Never forget that every single milliliter of oxygen that’s fed to people who pretend to be trafficking in nuance is wasted.

Everyone here knows what’s happening on the platforms in question.

There are a lot of masks coming off around here this week. Entirely expected given recent events. This is good! Let’s not forget.

One person within this topic has had all their posts flagged multiple times… if you know who you are, you should, please recalibrate and focus on other topics or this topic will simply have to be closed.

There are multiple flags at every login, this isn’t sustainable for us and it’s clear you have read the room wrong

So can we agree to disagree and quietly step away, any more flags and I think we’re done here …
