A few days ago, I started uploading samples to my Digitakt overnight because it always takes a long time to transfer. In the morning, I found that the Digitakt was running, but the transfer process through Elektron Transfer was throwing errors. I restarted Transfer, but nothing helped. By the way, the Digitakt was still playing sounds during this time.
Then I decided to reboot the Digitakt, and this happened: it shows the startup screen, then goes to a black screen and stays there.
I ran the test mode by holding Function during startup—no errors were detected. I performed a factory reset and reinstalled the firmware twice, but the issue persists. I also tried a different power supply, but the problem remains.
I suspect that I might have exceeded the disk capacity while transferring the samples.
I submitted a support ticket to Elektron, but haven’t received a response yet.
I wrote to support on January 16, but I haven’t received a response yet. Is this normal, or is something wrong? All my projects are on hold because of the malfunction, and I can’t continue making music.
Do you have a USB midi hub? For example, do you have an audio interface with DIN midi sockets on it? Or any kind of dedicated midi hub that plugs into your computer?
It’s unlikely to help in this instance, but since you’re able to access test mode but it won’t get past the bootloader stage then it might be related to bad data uploaded to the device (corrupt sample?) and you can try reloading the firmware via Sysex with the Transfer app using DIN midi.
There’s not a lot of understanding on my end (other than speculation) as to why it works, but occasionally I’ve seen a sysex firmware update effectively clear “bad data” type behaviors on Digitakt 1. I don’t know if this is one of those occasions, but if you already have the usb midi interface, you can give it a shot while you wait for a response.
Other than that, I think Elektron support is the only one who can help you with this so I think it’s best to either hold on until they contact you, or if you want another ticket can be submitted, however I think they just respond on a order received priority basis so the second contact is unlikely to be processed first.
I tried reinstalling the latest firmware on my Digitakt 2 three times after the loading issue began, but it didn’t help.
I used the MIDI port to reinstall the firmware since the Digitakt isn’t recognized by the Transfer software.
Why is Elektron’s support so bad? I created a ticket on January 16th, and apart from the automated response, I haven’t received anything else so far. This is very strange. I’m losing time.
If anyone from Elektron reads this, please help expedite the response.
Why not simply return it to the dealer? It’s still under warranty. It seems you’ve already tried all the available options, and the chances of Elektron providing a new insider tip are quite slim
