Yeah, they have had their hooks in me for about a decade. Each version just gets more bloated and runs slower and slower on my machine, time for new corporate overlords. I know it will involve learning new keyboard shortcuts, but I have very modest editting needs at the moment and Davinci looks plenty deep.

Nothing wrong with Resolve! Go for it 
But: the monthly cost for Adobe Cloud is peanuts. Really. If you work in that industry it’s nothing at all. If I make one… really one single small file I charge more for it than that abo costs, and my customers pay for it. It’s cheap for what is included.

I would rather do final cut from apple than Adobe, Adobe is for kids and hipsters with teenage engineering synths and stuff… haha, nothing for the hood.

Don’t get me wrong! All the way Davinci! But to use all these features … I have to look up every detail on youtube because it’s all hidden … 10 combination of actions to get the right render / fx / merge nodes … find the right tabs. It’s not really helping me with that – where as Adobe is all drag&drop without thinking too much. It’s like Blender: Ultra powerfull, almost better than everything else on the market but with a learning curve much steeper than the OT’s

I swapped cold turkey from Adobe Creative Cloud to DaVinci Resolve and the Affinity apps maybe 4-5 years ago. Haven’t really looked back. Every once in a while I need to use my girlfriends laptop because a customer wants the AI-files or something. Everytime I flee in terror as the Adobe software are just so bloated and user-unfriendly.
Recently I bought the Apple Motion to replace After Effects but I haven’t had time to learn it yet. Maybe I’ll do it in my pajamas on boxing day while eating chocolate.

I started using a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (BMPCC6K) this year for short films. Excellent video quality! Nevertheless, I rarely shoot in 6K, as 4K is more than sufficient for my present needs.
However, I must admit that I prefer using my Panasonic GH5S, due to the fact that it requires less rigging on most shoots. As a one-man film crew quite often, especially in light of COVID-19, the BMPCC6K can be a handful to manage with other tasks that require attention: directing actors, setting up lights, handling sound, etc.

In my opinion, Davinci Resolve is the best video editor for audio. It allows an editor to use VSTs, which is very nice.
With that said, beyond basic audio dialog and foley editing, none of the video editors are actually a good option. After locking the edited video and exporting it, I usually load it into a DAW, Digital Performer 10, to further improve the audio quality, add sound effects, compose scores, etc.

Adobe charged me for canceling my subscription…fuck them. Their program is also riddled with bugs and questionable design choices…something DR also has a fair amount of but its FREE
I was under the impression paying for a product gives me a superior product. But all I got with premier pro were headaches and anger and paying $50 to cancel. Twats.

Oh and also, I highly recommend the training videos BMD has on their YouTube. And if you have time, the editing training manual (a free 300 page pdf on their website) is very well written and as someone who had no experience with video editing it was supremely helpful. I did about an hour a day for a couple weeks and took excessive notes because there are a ton of shortcuts and key combinations you will most certainly forget…I still pull up that txt when editing.

resurfacing this in 2022 for any fresh insights/recommendations on open source video editors that work smooth and fast with mojave osx
i’m using open shot but it’s taking ages and my laptops fans have never sounded like this before, screaming.
Yes, i hope my old macbook air runs it, i do not have a fast GPU there.
Anyone with FL Studio should definitely check out the zGameEditor plugin, which I was happy to find is also in the Mac version. That has some solid video synth features that can be layered and linked / synced to the audio in various ways. I love dropping in a rendered wav from a modular session and fooling around with it in there. It’s certainly more of a video creator than an video editor, but definietly a hidden bonus for anyone with a licence.

I’m gonna up that because I’m interested if people still consider Davinci Resolve the best available.
Works for me, but i only do light video editing. Nothing advanced.
