Man any polyphonic synth will do that. It’s not the synth that will make you go dub
I am very aware of the idea that “any polyphonic synth will do.” If you want you can check out my releases, which are all variants and expressions of the dub aesthetic in house and techno.
But the Syntakt is not polyphonic. It only has that chord machine. I have no way to demo the box and decide for myself if that chord machine will give me the kind of flexibility I’m used to when it comes to crafting dub chords (for reference, Opsix, MegaFM, Nymphes, V-Synth, 106, PPG VST, Massive X VST). I absolute prefer FM and Wavetable for my tastes, most of the time. Classic Roland sound being an exception.
No. Not compared with the synths in your list. It’s got a bunch of wave shapes, 20-odd fixed chords (and inversions), modest modulation, pre-filter overdrive, two filters and amp.
It’s handy, quirky, fun. It’s more flexible than it seems at first, but it’s not an FM synth.
The Chord-machine isnthe obvious choice. You could also layer two tracks to create a minor chord. Use different filters types, LFOs and panning to create more complex sound design options.
Where the whole things comes really to live is when you send the result including the FX to FX block and put the notch or notch2 filter on the whole thing. Now move the frequency with another LFO, very slowly.
Yeah, the chord machine is a bit too tame compared to simple saw wave for example. But yes, it’s very conviniet.
A few dub chords from the Analog Four. IMHO one of the most capable machines when it comes to dub chords.
Totally agree!
The A4 is very capable, and the smokey character of the A4 is something I really love about it.
Using the perf macros and dialing in delay feedback and HP/LP filters while also adjusting parameters on the voice is so nice.
Hella dubby
This was great, would love to hear more!
“We cultivate a practice of anarcho-collectivism with voluntary, iterative and decentralised creativity”
Love it.
And the music too.
Ah nice, appreciate it.
Your stuff just on Soundcloud? I need to dig in.
yes soundcloud, YT I have pretty random stuff
Reminds me a lot to that loopy dub techno like „Antistatic“. Great!
Ah cool, I don’t know that stuff, will check it out. Cheers
These are smashing. I’ve been trying to summon that crispy, crunchy, sighing texture from my Hydra for a while. What have you got there for that? Is it a particular combo of oscillators and noise? Or is there some kind of FM going on?
I can get some passable results using LP and BP filters simultaneously but I can’t get that smooth to bitey sounds you have there…
Any tips/pointers pls?
X
Sample the hit from your Hydrasynth and reduce the bitrate on the sample
No FM, just simple Oscs, noise, fx and some modulation of them all. I’m actually hoping to do a tutorial on it today, hopefully get it posted later on. Going on holiday on Sunday so need to organise for that first, so I’ll try my best.
