Argon sound quality is much better imo.
Love my Reface DX, great keybed, great versatile sound, the speaker sounds great considering and it runs on batteries. It’s nigh on perfect for what it is.
I also love my Reface CP but pretty limited sounds wise, although the effects take it to some pretty weird places.
You want «sound design» or you want a top «notch keybed»? In one post you said you want one thing, and in the next the other.
The thing is in a mini synth you are already deep in a compromose. Try the Hydrasynth. If you can spend more, get the Take 5. And if you dont find that satisfatory get a bigger device.
I guess my question was sort of about a compromise as the size is the important factor here.
I’ve also been curious about what the best mini keys around are and Hydra E looks like it’s getting pretty good recommendations in that segment. Take 5 is great and I have it. The keybed is very nice but it’s a little big to always bring around for me. It’s what I have been doing for the past year. The best keys are found on the bigger synths obviously but I was curious about peoples experience with smaller synths specifically. Hope that clears up any confusion.
Yes, I’ve been thinking about giving this one a try as well. There’s a used one for sale not super far from where I live at a very reasonable price. Have you played it. If so what do you think about it?
Not played it but look at the amount of knobs on it versus the small size. Great choice for a portable but usable synth for sound design and performance.
There’s many full sized synths with less knobs.
That is a really good point. Thank you
Another vote for the Reface keyboard, much much nicer than the hydrasynth explorer. Hydra is interesting, but it’s not that pleasant to play for me and bugs annoyed me to the point of selling it. Love the Reface CP despite the limited palette. I’d happily get another Reface, they all sound amazing.
Yeah, it is really good. Remember being impressed when playing it a few years ago. Nice sound as well although it just does the few things it does really well. Thanks for sharing your experience with both instruments and how they compare.
Finally ended up with the minifreak. Keybed feels better to me than the keystep but might just be the case of new versus old keybed.
I like it. It’s not perfect but it works. I decided the modals (argon etc) were too big. Almost ended up with the cobalt 5 but I like the keys better on the freak. I did not like the hydra explorer keys very much but it is a great synth. The Yamaha reface are great but a little limited for my use. Would be really great if they made more with perhaps a bit more hands on depth.
Minilouge keys are also great but voice count and some other things made me decide against them as well.
Anyway, that was my thoughts if anyone is interested😊
Hydra next time.
