Best practices for sending aftertouch from Octatrack MIDI tracks

Hi all – I’m trying to figure out how to use LFO to modulate aftertouch output from the MIDI tracks.

I’m using the MIDI monitor on my Roland S-330 to show me what’s going on.

I’ve seen in the manual that I have to hold FUNC and press the encoder to activate AT. I’ve done this. When I turn the knob, then the AT messages are sent.

But I want an LFO to modulate AT. AT is set as a target of LFO2, depth is up on both the LFO Setup page and the LFO page.

I hit PLAY. Sequencer starts.

Now: does AT only output when there are notes being output from the sequencer? To me, it does look this way. It looks like there is some connection between trigs and AT being sent. If I have no trigs, the LFO-modulated AT signal does not seem to exit the MIDI out. (Again, turning the encoder /does/ send the messages.)

I’m not seeing anything in the manual about this and am wondering if anybody has any tips. Thanks.

What mode is the LFO in? I’m also pretty sure that the Octa track LFOs won’t start unless there’s a trig (doesn’t have to be a note trig) on the sequencer lane.
