Best parameter for Kick Sidechain

Hello team! I’m preparing a live set with Digitone MKII and Digitakt MKII. Percussions are in DTK2 and the Melodies are in DTN2 which his line output is connected to de Digitakt Input.

I want to made a smooth sidechain with the Kick which is on the track 1 of DTK because I want the bass drum to have a slight presence in the room.

My question is which are your recommended parameters on the compressor page to do it?

Actually I have the following configuration:

  • Compressor Routing Page: all routed (tracks+line in+effects) except Track 1 on Digitakt.
  • Compressor Page:
    Threshold: 40
    Attack: 20
    Release: 30
    MUP: 12.1 dB
    Ratio: 8
    SCS: Track 1
    SCF: 15
    DRY/CMP: 90

What do you think?

My thoughts:

  1. try to create your tracks in a way you would not need kick sidechain at all.
  2. use second filter to cut frequencies you don’t need - on perhaps all tracks.
  3. there isn’t a set and forget setting, it could be that you need to adapt to your track. Sometimes you want that pumping, sometimes you don’t.
