I don’t think there’s any other year I‘ve listened to as little new music as 2025. Which had nothing to do with the quality of music but with life circumstances.
Still, there were some gems that I really liked:
Youth Lagoon - Rarely Do I Dream
Stereolab - Instant Holograms on Metal Film
Panda Bear - Sinister Grift
Bon Iver - Sable Fable
DJ Koze - Music Can Hear Us
Alex G - Headlights
Austra - Chin Up Buttercup
Barker - Stochastic Drift
SPEYSIDE is an amazing song! We listen to it almost daily!
I would have included that album but I thought it was released in 2024. Ironically, Apple Music credits has September 2024 for SPEYSIDE. All the rest are in 2025.
I guess that’s because they already released an EP in 2024 which then turned out to be just side A of the album 1:1.
Very happy to hear that this has captured you and your family‘s (?) hearts!
Ironically, I always jump straight to the second disc/side (Fable) and ignore that there is another half that is a callback to Bon Iver‘s roots as the sad guy with a guitar who rented that cabin. I‘m sure it‘s great music, but I‘m much more interested in the flipside of it, which he has described in many interviews as him finally being happy and freeing himself of the pressure to be kinda depressed so he can make the music people expect him to make. I wasn‘t a big fan of the last two albums either (but respect them), but it sounds refreshing when he finally leaves some light in and finds ways to experiment without being overly obtuse!
