Best ipad apps to complement Syntakt + Digitone

Hi guys. I’m looking for app suggestions for ipad to complement syntakt and digitone. I need it to do all these things. 1) Record midi CC Automation and loop it back into each respective box (without having to do any manual midi mapping of knobs). 2) Have really straightforward resampling of the external synths with minimal screen pressing 3) Host Auv3. 4) Be a midi clock slave to syntakt or digitone. 5) Clip based automation would be a a nice bonus.

I’ve tried Logic pro for ipad and while it’s very flexible and does all of the above, something about working with it is just tedious, too much menu diving, and unintuitive. It goes out of sync. And MIDI clock can’t be slaved to syntakt afaik. I’ve tried Drambo and love it, but that would require mapping every single knob on every track in a template which I don’t have the time for at the moment.

Currently trying Beatmaker 3 which seems good so far apart from some workflow quirks, but can’t seem to figure out how to record external MIDI cc?

I’m also open to alternative app suggestions that I can combine in AUM or some other host to make my own “DAW” to achieve all the above. Or maybe integrating some kind of midi sequencer/recorder into Loopy (is that possible?).

Thanks.

Thanks for the cool suggestion :). It’s not exactly what I’m looking for but this definitely looks like something I’ll be adding to my app collection!

This might be a helpful resource for you if you haven’t already seen it. It’s pretty dense so I’d recommend that from inside the thread, check the little box in the search bar that says “search this topic” and enter digitone or syntakt if you only want to read posts about iPad music apps pertaining to those 2 boxes specifically.

So for anyone looking to do what I asked in my original post, I’ve found a setup that I’m quite happy with.

I’m using Imaginando LK as a midi plugin in beatmaker 3. LK records knob performances as automation (which as far as I can tell beatmaker can’t do unless you map its limited number of macros), and sends the automation back back to the Elektron boxes. The pads/piano roll in beatmaker can also be used to play or sequence whatever Elektron you have connected and beatmaker can send its own automation to them as well.

The only issue is I want to use one of the boxes as the Sync master (because the transport buttons in BM3 are annoyingly tiny), but don’t know how to send a record transport message to the DAW from the boxes. Anyone know if it’s possible?

If no one here can help, try asking in the Audiobus forum, which is full of people discussing iOS apps.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. Though I’ve figured out a setup I like for now as I mentioned in the post above. Right now I’m wondering if there is any way to send a record transport message from Syntakt to the DAW, since the record button activates the step recording I was wondering if there is some modifier that makes it send a transport message.

Ah, I see, this is actually an Elektron question. I misunderstood what you meant by “boxes”, thought it was in the LK app.
