Since we have picked up this conversation again, I’ll add that the Machinedrum’s various hihat machines are pretty awesome, and especially the P-I ones. This has been mentioned several times upthread already, so I’ll merely join the choir. They do something that is very different from the classic six-detuned-oscillators-and-a-vca approach - more clangy, more interesting harmonics. Same with cymbals. I pretty much got the Machinedrum just for that

How’s the Digitone 2 for hats?
I’m finding DN2 great for hats, with the caveat that hat and cymbal sounds are always weird territory for me, that feels very subjective even to myself across sessions and pattern contexts.
But yeah, the new FM Drum engine is great for hats, and a bit of wave folding and filtered noise add extra flexibility…
