Best/favourite drum machine for HiHats?

Talking about 606 hihats … i bought a Behringer RD-6 for that…best 120 euro i ever spent.

Really wondering why A4 hasn’t been mentioned yet. That’s synthesizing heaven when it comes to all kinds of hats.

Yes, A4! Some older test …

Got even a bit 909ish in this one:

CR-78 for me, closely followed by the 606.

Synplant is an FM synth through a filter just like digitone so I’m hoping you could get close by parameter matching digitone to the synplant patch. Mostly I would be looking for a magical combination of the core FM parameters that would yield a 909-like tone if it exists.

i want to upgrade my TR-6s to two TR-6s
one extra instrument but twice smaller in size comparing to TR-8s.

Don’t forget about additional cables, power adapters (unless you’ll run them on batteries) and a mixer. TR-8s still has more functionality and costs less than 2x TR-6s.

Yeah, I messed with gain staging aswell and punchy you can get I suppose but there is something missing in the body of those sound. And about the top end, it sounded tinny and unpleasant, I used the filter on the channel on the unit to get rid of the worst of
it. To my ears.

I guess I expected it to be great sounding without to much tweaking (as the originals), maybe I had too high expectations, I really dig the machine otherwise!

+1 for hats on the Volca Drum! So lively and satisfying. They just work.

well, i need a mixer anyway, unless i use MC-707 as a mixer – but MC-707 on the bigger side too, i mean it does not fit ANY backpack, just SOME backpacks.

+10dB to be exact

Fuck yeah! 606 is my personal preference, ever since

Jomox Alphabase is so tasty.

Meh, I’m not a big hi-hat fan… I’m usually more like “bye-hats!”

JK – I like to design them on the Digitakt or other samplers from various noise sources. Finding/generating different kinds of noise can be a fun rabbit hole to go down. I’ve been using that free Elektron Super Glue sound pack for hats and cymbals lately

That’s some amazing info, any source (to read more about it) or own research?

909 samples are my go to when making house/techno type hi hats, the open hat in particular has a classic timeless appeal. when it comes to the elektron world i really like using the e12 shaker (SH) from the machinedrum as a hihat as it is pretty versatile with how the attack is handled and can easily go back and forth from a shaker to a hihat type sound

People rave about the Alphabase and its sound but I had one for a few weeks and quickly grew tired of the awkward interface and several other issues that I won’t go into here but I was was listening on headphones to tracks I had made with the Rytm and Digitakt and then a track I did on the Alphabase and it sounded really boxy.
