Best Elektron Form Factor

Which do you prefer? :slightly_smiling_face:

Smaller is no doubt usually better, but it might be too cramped for some people, and may have sacrificed a bit of enjoyment of use & usability. What do you think? Personally I think the flagship MK2s, i.e. A4 and AR are a little too big so they are not being considered here.

  • Octatrack Form Factor (incl. square buttons)
  • Tonverk Form Factor (incl. slim buttons)

Considering the A4 and AR mk2’s here, I think those are the best.
Enough room and buttons but not too big and I think the design is just beautiful.

For me it’s the MK1’s and the MD and MNM form factors and stylings that I love.

Not trying to talk trash here, but giving us 2 options out of the 5 available in the range (which is ignoring the ‘keys’ instruments) is honestly diabolical.

  • Personally, I would say more space is better, but I think the Tonverk’s workflow is smoother than the OT’s.
  • I started Elektron-ing on a model:samples and its interface feels very different from the parameter pages on other instruments.
  • I love how much ARMk2 feels like a workstation that I sit at.
  • I love how much power is packed in my DN2.
  • I think the Syntakt is the smartest move Elektron has made in years: fun and classic drum machine sounds + great sequencer + analog processing over USB for a “hardware plug-in use case” in a compact desktop box is a great match for “in the box” producers. Yet I don’t want a Syntakt because it’s not what I need.

So, as much as I appreciate conversations about interfaces, this poll is a little too biased in my opinion. This could have been an opportunity to celebrate what’s cool about all the formats Elektron has, not just 2 which have been picked arbitrarily. Asking for our opinion but only letting us pick from the choices you already made is too bad I think!

edit: my current setup be like “am I a joke to you?”

edit 2: added more examples for illustration

You’re not a joke to me, current setup.

A4 and AR just feels more like a real instrument with that bigger size, bigger buttons etc. Small size is space saving but feels more “toyish”. :person_shrugging:

And I want this crossfader back.

I like the OG size myself, it’s in the Goldilocks zone. Digi’s are nice for live sets when you have multiple bits of gear that need to fit on a table. The bigger units take up a little too much room for the controls onboard, though I do like the angled panels.

Analog Drive was the best!

Digi sizes are spot on for me. One-handed operation is possible on those which is super during live performances

Digitone II is perfect.
I also prefer two rows of 8 steps.

I have DT1, OT2 and A4mk1 and I really dig the form factor of A4mk1

Box, without a doubt. I’d like to see attempts at cones and wearable cylinders.

It’s weird, I prefer the tactile feel of the bigger square buttons, but the boxes that speak to me most musically at the moment and have the best workflow are the Tonverk and DN2.

Looks wise I think the OT2 is still my favorite terms of cool factor.

Digitone and Analog Heat best form factor so convenient for dark clubs with small spaces.

The Octatrack and all the other MKI boxes are the best. Followed by Digi boxes, then TV, then in dead dead dead last, the new AR/A4 MKII boxes.
