Ah, was it the Sausage Machine? I might well have been at the gig too ; I think I remember the lack of sufficient songs for an encore.

Chicago in the mid-late 90s was unreal. Unfortunately I was about 5 years too late to move there and catch it.

Thinking of Chicago, I forgot Bobby Conn’s phenomenal Rise Up, which is perfection from start to finish.

Just curious if you set up 8 speakers and four different sound systems everytime you listen to zaireeka

Also I wish I had been at the 40 cassette parking lot expirements that preceed that album

I have a room dedicated to it. It’s full of masticated stuffed animals.

 I have a mix-down rip. In my defense, there was a week in uni that my parents had gone on vaca that I set up four stereos and had people over regularly for listening sessions (that wasn’t going to fly in a Chicago apartment) I came to know it well and was comfortable getting a rip. Even in stereo the production is bat shit crazy. And the songs are too beautiful not to be able to listen to it when I want.

Just a smattering sample of what I can recollect as truly standout albums to me. I tried my best to not rehash what others have already mentioned as obviously great albums.

Beck - midnight vultures
Portishead - Portishead
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication/Hello Nasty
Ice Cube - Predator
Blind Melon - Soup
Peter Gabriel - Us
Fugees - the Score
esthero - breath from another

I really adore US. Such vulnerability! Apparently he was going through therapy at the time due in part to his wife leaving him and I can, I can really feel it in the music, somehow. I put on Secret World now and I simply don’t know of another piece of music that touches me in the same way and something like 1 out of 5 times I listen to it I cry, like I’m doing now…

I can’t believe I forgot Jon Spencer Blues Explosion! Awesome band! Saw them a couple times live back then as well. Also dig Boss Hog.

They were fantastic live. I saw them with Sleater Kinney in Seattle a gazillion years ago. They were both so good.

I realized if I kept posting album covers I’d probably overload the server. I trust this lot to name all the albums I would have posted.

Well, Bone Machine is one I should have also had on my list for a start.

I forgot all about Spoon having released in the 90s. I always think of them as a 00s band.

Yeah it was hard to leave Bone Machine off. What a record.

Oh good shout. I totally forgot this was released in the 90s. Might need to move my list around (again).

Before I made my list I had to run through this and Death Certificate again to choose. I chose Death for its urgency, but Predator is just tremendous.
