Behringer MS-1 [was MS-101]

Hilarious video.
Cats are rubbish.

Ive got an SH101, and matey in the video is right. Legit complaints, for things that should work like an SH101 but dont. Shame about the transpose switch, thats like how you play and SH101 man, you do cool octave switches with your left hand, and it works even when a note is held down. Cool as fuck.

Personally Id say they are deal breakers. I would have sent it back to the shop too.

As for the filter, fuck man, it depends how its calibrated, and tuned. My SH101 wont sound like another one, because Ive had it apart and fiddled with it. Having said that, the filter res on mine tracks V/o properly. Unlike this MS1 mk2.

With MK II slowly rolling out, does anyone know if it has patch presets?

It’s an analogue mono synth with no digital control ( just a few midi sync options )

It doesn’t have patch presets.

the things he’s complaining about are certainly not that. especially the glide and transpose. I mean, the glide basically does nothing. that’s simply not correct.

I’ve had exactly the opposite experience. unless the synth is polyphonic and/or the keyboard is under heavy digital control.

it’s almost like they ruined the pure beauty and fun of the SH-101 by adding the extra sequencer bits.

Yep. And it doesnt do what an SH101 does.
So… I dunno. Cheap synth that sort of looks a bit like an SH101 but isnt one.

Weird.

I really appreciate my SH-01A more now.

Somebody’s mkII jam uploaded today. Sounds good, still not quite sh-101 but probably an improvement over the mkI (which was fine in it’s own right).

Not a fan of the fm mode on it , it seems to turn into a noisy mess , both on mk1 and 2

As much as one can tell from behind the mask of reverb and drum loops- doesn’t seem to have that SH101 thing.

Sure I get it, it’s cheap. I’d rather get a Novation Bass station 2. That does SH101 type sounds very well, and a lot more.

I probably repeat myself but I view the various “not-quiet-right” clones as a way to enter an alternative universe where I can enjoy a slightly different version of something I love. I prefer my original sh101 yet I get enjoyment from the behringer clone as well.

Well, I gotta admit the MK-2 is worthy

of a Bad Gear episode.

That demo was bloody awful for showcasing any of the 101-ness, especial in the latter half where they dial in the FM which the SH-101 never had of course.

I’ve got the inferior Mk1 and it does sound like a SH-101, that holllowness to pulsewave, the rubbery envelopes, and that wonderful filter.

It sounds as much like the OG 101 as the S-1 does (which is essentially the SH-01A with worse controls)

I can’t believe the Mk2 sounds less like an original 101, I mean its Behringer so it’s possible - but don’t write it off over one really poor video

As with any analogue synth that has non-linear FM, there’s some amazing sweetspots to be had, in-between a lot of horrible noisy poop

MK II seems to be available at Thomann now, but only in red :/.

So sick of red synthesizers.

Pretty sure the mk2 is only available in red right now.

I do like Clavia’s red, tbh. But I find the Behringer-color-tone a bit cheap.

meh. I was hoping for the black version. Anyhow, it seems that Behringer didn’t manage to solve the Autotune / Portamento issue, either.

UK buyers, the Mk1 is available for just £149 at Andertons in black or red.

Which ever way your bread is buttered, that is insane cheap.

Mine is being delivered today.

Enjoy!

Throw a hapax for sequence and you’re done !
