Behringer LMDrum (Linndrum)

I think one of the beta testers says further up the thread

They should have put the func key… I mean, tap key, where they put the save button, on the left. It doesn’t make sense to have to use your right hand to hit the func key.

By saving space from the original linndrum, the faders suffered most. They seem painfully close together when he’s um, fingering them.

Its got a total of just over 5 minute user sample time and you can use it as you wish. Way more than the 20 seconds of the SP1200 reissue.

Now im seriously considering it for this alone. I can even put a brass plaque of Roger Linn at the top to overcome my indiscretions.

I think it’s hard to compare this to the sp1200 without hearing someone’s actual user content made on this one. I watched a comparison between the emu emax and sp1200 the other day and they’re contemporaries often said to be virtually identical and they definitely don’t sound identical even with the same samples.

True it may not be the same. But a 12 bit DAC is quite rare nowadays and he does make a point of these in his promo video. Maybe something else adds to the flavour
This is how Behringer started their recreation.

I think a lot of the ‘secret sauce’ of the SP was the anti aliasing filters on each of the 8 channels. That and the fact they were fixed (and different) per channel. I don’t know if these were a thing in the LinnDrum, I suspect not

Yes i forgot that. Thats why no hip hop producers bought them.

I was joking. Not even Elektron could clone the Octatrack.

Kind of hard to tell from the picture but it looks to me the other side of that board is the control board, so one of those connectors might lead to an input output board that’s not pictured and that might be where the dacs live. Would be a bit of a price cutting measure to put the controls on the same board that has your processing

lolol

Too bad he didn’t suggest 16 levels and slicing otherwise this could have gotten interesting.

We’re committed to making the LM DRUM the most powerful drum machine/sampler on the market

Hmmm, I think it will take them time
Reading that confirm me that I would be a poor marketing guy

Thought of buying the RD9 as a teamplayer for my perkons. Maybe the LMDrum is the better choice, as i can use 909 samples there, too. I have got a yamaha rx5 (12 bit) and a custom card to load own samples and 909 samples in 12 bit sounds great, when tweaked right.

Are there lfo’s on the LMDrum?

Probably not until Roger Linn makes another personal statement offhandedly mentioning LFOs.

‘Proper’ 12bit conversion is the deal-breaker here for me - if I can get that at a decent price then I probably will and pair it with a trigger to midi. Still miss my s900.

its pretty funny that theyre acting like they are collaborating with Linn, they love a good spin.

right!?! Linn’s comment was more like “I see they made the same mistakes I did…” and they’re all: “we collaborated with Roger on making this better!” sorta vibes

By taking the high road Roger set himself up to be co-opted by Behringer here, but he said his piece and I don’t think he gives much more of a care other than the annoyance anyone would feel about the life their ideas take on in corporate hands. But also, as Roger admits, Behringer is basically losing money on these. So it’s less like he’s missing out on anything

Thats only Roger Linn’s assumption, and not fact, remember Behringer own their own chip manufacturer, they may not be making huge % per unit, but they will be making some profit per unit, and in the volume it looks like thats been pre-ordered, it could be a handsome profit indeed.
