…i never ever used behringer euqipment…
no…wait…wrong…once i did, and still do…some genelc rip off studio monitor…
still in use if i wanna do the standard and average check on final mixes…
but apple ear buds took over in the last few years…listen to ur mixes on the average to be expected thing the rest of the world will use to listen to it is essential…
and i totally see the point, when it comes to price tags, why there is a good reason to use their products, since it’s a pricy hobby in first place once u starting out with all this…
but i was always lucky enough not to watch price tags in first place…
BUT…this damned little thing…this cat…fuk…now they got me…
if namm doesn’t bring up elektrons little brother of the a4…the cat is all mine for this summers festivals…
I’m very curious to learn about the two types of oscillator sync. The original only had hard sync, I think. (This is the first Behringer clone to pique my interest in a while.)
The Octave Cat was the first synth i ever bought way back in 1981. I had dreams of forming an electronic band but my classmates couldn’t afford anything at the time. So i was solo. Story of my life.
This sounds awesome. The sliders on it makes it very playable.
I notice it’s in stock pretty much everywhere.
ADDED:
Another demonstration. This is not a performance, it uses a few very simple sequences played over and over, while the controls are adjusted by hand. This synth has an amazing range and often is very surprising – in a good way. I queued this up to a good noise making section toward the end, but you can go back and listen to any of this.
Must say this surprised me. Amazing amount of fun here.
This seems close to a no-brainer, at $300 USD !
I’m wondering what happens when the patch panel is made part of things ?
Not yet. I’ve been put off a bit after seeing the issues with the sync. Although there are a ton of other good sounds I’ve heard come out of it. It’s on the back burner at the momento. I’ve been digging the M:C vids I’ve been watching, I think that’s ahead in the pecking order at present…
Plus I think I’ve been holding my corner of the monosynth market up quite well recently! It’s not happened yet but we could be approaching terminal mono count at Bunk Towers, perish the thought…
Poly mode lets VCO1 generate the highest note played on the keyboard while VCO2 handles the lowest allowing two notes to be played simultaneously.

I saw it demoed in (at least) one of the videos. Useful. I like that the CAT has so many little tricks wrapped up together. Plus all those sliders makes change rapid and very visual.
I’d get the pro1 and others before this one
I think cat and wasp are a bit more niche than k2 & pro 1 , neutron etc.
I was surprised to see that custom firmware for neutron ( it’s on gearslutz / YouTube )
Absolutely, I have a few niche things…these particular synths were never on my radar to buy, whether it was the og or clone, but I’m sure many have wanted one for ages.
I’m sure behringer wouldn’t have made them if it wasn’t worthwhile .
Just made this on the Cat. Although I prefer a multimode filter for drum duties the cat proved to be pretty capable. The loss of low end you get with the resonance partially up makes up for it for those resonant band pass sounds. All pieced together in Renoise.
Had zero interest in this until the Behringer QC thread. This thing seems to sound great.
Was wondering how people are finding it for percussive duties? With that wide-range oscillator, env-controlled pitch and FM + noise, I’d imagine this thing could make some massive kicks. Everything else, apart from sync seems to tick my sonic box.
