Beginner's Questions

Hi! I<m new to the Octatrack and have a simple question: If i create a sample in my daw, then import it to the Octatrack, how do i deceide exactly how many steps the sample in question will be. It seems that by default it takes up the whole 64 steps! I want to be able to choose the exact lenth… I<m sure it has to do with original tempos and all, but can somebody help me please!!

Not necessarily. After you select that sound for a track, if that track’s timestretch is disabled, the sample will play in its original state.

Further, if that track’s timestretch is enabled but Rate is set to affect timestretch instead of pitch, you can jack with the sample’s playback speed independently from the sequencer tempo.

If you set your DAW tempo to the same as the OT, then create/export your sample on the DAW grid at 4/8/however many bars, then upon OT sample import you can “plug and play”.

Sounds as though the audio you’re playing back is, say a 4 bar loop at 120bpm. If you have your OT playing at 110bpm then the loop will appear to take more than 4 bars / 64 steps on the ot

Think about maybe slicing the loop then assigning each slice to a step using the auto function (can’t remember the exact name for it lol)
