Battery cap

I just got a Model:Samples but I can’t remove the battery cap. Did they change the design? There is no rubber cap, but there is a plastic circle, however I can’t “remove” it? I’ve gouged and scratched it to hell with screwdrivers and knives. It won’t come off. Did they change the design and remove the cap?

Cheers,

Yes they did, the newer M:C and M:S are made without the 2nd power port under the cap.

Disappointing to hear that the only update they’ve had to the Cycles in four years is removing a feature.

Sure, the battery handle may be discontinued, but that port was a bit more flexible - nice to have.

  • Power inlet: Center positive 3.5 × 1.35 mm barrel
    jack, 5V DC, 1A
  • Battery In: Center positive 5.5 × 2.1 barrel jack, 4–10V DC

Wish I had never sold mine now.

jez, they could at least update the manual to prevent me from scratching it up trying to pry it open

latest manual says

3.3 SIDE CONNECTOR

  1. BATTERY DC In, Input for accessory battery power supply.

They are also causing people to waste money buying the wrong connector. Terrible customer experience.

I’m pretty sure they did that with the latest manual. But you definitely got unlucky there, I don’t think anyone would anticipate hardware features being removed, so you couldn’t be expected to refresh your copy of the manual just before purchase.

weird, I downloaded the PDF yesterday and it mentions battery. Maybe I grabbed an older version somehow. THanks. I’ll get the new one.

I can confirm it’s not there. I just got a new Cycles last week and battery power was not listed on the sale specs and it is not in the current manual at Elektron site that I downloaded last Wednesday. That manual was updated October 2024. Not sure about before that.

If you go from Google, it often links to an older version of the manual. You’d have to go to Elektron.se, go to support and select the device. But, I agree, Elektron could have been a bit more forthcoming with how things are now. I still haven’t decide between Digitone and Model:Cycles, but if I went with the M:C, the battery handle port would have been a plus. I already knew from the forum that they removed it, but if you didn’t come across one of the threads asking about it, you probably expect it to still be there.

Ahh, so this means my m:c is a “vintage” model?

Nice
