What other things are available that are similar to the wave bard? (I’d call it a happy accident rhythm generator)
I have the FX, swapped in the firmware for Bard and had a good fun time. It’s a fantastic unpredictable meander. I’m tempted to endure whatever palaver it is to put my own samples on.
Thank you for a new useful word, definitely going to incorporate palaver into every description I use to talk about my job.

that shifter section of the video is nuts! that and the slicer were my favorites by far. such incredible effects on that thing. its really a no brainer
Great videos. I really enjoyed the Microgranny when I had one and pleaded with Bastl to make a groovebox version with a sequencer and multiple tracks. I think a wave bard /granular groovebox with a basic sequencer annd all that LFO madness on a few tracks of simultaneous loops/samples would make Bastl fans very happy.
Dude yes, a groovebox version of the Microgranny with like 3–4 tracks, granular playback, and Bastl-style modulation? Absolute dream.
Throw in a step sequencer and some live performance tricks and they’d have an instant cult classic. I hope they’re cooking something
has anyone managed to midi clock the kastle 2 (using the latest firmware) from ableton move over usb? seems it should be possible, but not having any luck…
Now both the Bard and Wizard are available as one Eurorack module too:
The firmware is swappable and the panel is reversible between the Bard and Wizard. Nice.

And a really good run through of the FX and Wave Bard modules by The Unperson:
Really interested in this! Particularly the Wave Bard euro format
The new Kastle version is a synth/melody maker, and I think it sounds really rather good. It can be weird (as you’d expect with Bastl), but also there’s a lot of quite pretty, punchy genuinely useful sounds in there. I think, even if I don’t end up “performing” with it, the potential for sample fodder is pretty immense. It’s easily their best Kastle so far in my opinion.
Watched the whole video earlier, mesmerizing as ever. You coax some amazing sounds out of it. I think I’ll be getting one at some point. The swappable firmware is a big plus.
I’ve always been put off by these patch cables, but this looks incredibly fun and sounds awesome. Is there any information about the cables anywhere?
What would you like to know? Like some other small synths (eg the Volca Modular), the Kastle series use Dupont cables (AKA jump wires) which are very simple and cheap.
That’s exactly the type of information I was missing ![]()
Tangible Waves (AE Modular) developed better of those wires. They have them in different lengths.
Here is one example.
It comes with a good pack of cables (in different lengths) so you don’t have to worry about not getting patching straight away - there are enough in there for every patch I show in my video.
