Not really. They are two completely different approaches.
Looks like my Phase8 arrived. Thanks Bastl.
Feels a bit unfair to knock the Phase8, when it’s clearly inspired Bastl to make this.
What is this kalimba mania lately
not so sure- phase8 uses acoustic sounds, the bastl kalimba isn’t acoustic, its a synth
Almost like the evolution of the guitar then ![]()
https://youtu.be/WeJ3wz1S01Q?is=6cqoaSCo8KrN6fer Quite detailed presentation by Andrew Huang - really interesting! So, it is basically a synth with a Kalimba-style interface, with customizable scales, and with anrpegiator, looper, etc.
I’ve backed. Looks really inspiring and fun.
backed / they’re going fast: 220 left of 500 for “super” early bird ![]()
Backed this to get the early bird price!
I think getting distorted almost electric guitar-like sounds is what’s most alluring to me - Andrew Huang has some in his video. The looper and arpeggiator look very fun to play around with on the couch as well.
i needed to back. this 90 seconds looper with overdubbing and variable playback speed might be fun fun fun
Not knocking anything, to me, they are both calimbas in a way
Yea it is to a kalimba what a midi keyboard is to a piano - and I own a midi keyboard instead of a piano for a reason.
Amazed to see that they’ve already sold over 500 units - glad I got in so quickly, Elektronauts is terrible for my GAS ![]()
haha, word / i randomly woke up in the middle of the night and stumbled onto this thread. wasn’t planning on buying anything at 3am, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s probably the Phase8 that started it, but kalimbas are so much fun and IIRC there have been a couple of projects in the past years, but more from small manufacturers and diyers/tinkerers.
Pledged! Sounds fun!
…THIS…gonna be my first BASTL gadget FOR SURE…!!!
The difference between a Hainbach demo and pretty much anyone else is insane. I want this thing and whatever album he makes of these tunes
