Bastl Bestie - Portable Stereo Mixer and dirty feedback loop

I have tried it. The video bastl posted about this is extremely cool, but I wouldn’t say it’s a core feature of the box. Gain staging it can be tricky (for example, it was much too hot for my Microcosm, if I recall).

I might try it again, but I’ve gone back to using my bestie the “normal” way.

Fwiw I bought mine during the sale and I like it a lot. Super convenient, sounds nice and clean if that’s what you want and very gnarly (in a good way) if you don’t. For the price I paid it’s an absolute no-brainer

I bought one for super cheap on reverb earlier this year and I’ve been super stoked on it since. Sometimes I remember that it can be an overblown noise machine and hqve fun with it but mostly it’s just a very chill lil mixer

compression

Hi all. I love this thing, but I feel a bit gun shy to let the channel 3 feedback run wild without some kind of limiter solution in order to protect my speakers, ears, etc.

Anyone have experience using this with a hardware limiter or compressor? I was thinking about a cheap-ish solution like Alesis Micro Limiter or maybe Art Dual Pro Limiter, both are under $200. Any other recommendations to integrate this into a setup and leverage the more wild side of it?

Would love to hear more about how people are using this now that it’s been out awhile.

I’m interested in this too. I upgraded to a fancier mixer and when I have a minute I’m excited to try out the bestie in the fx loop - but when I was using the bestie as my main mixer, I didn’t end up using the no-input effect much because it got so loud so quickly.

compressing

I use a second hand FMR Audio RNC. It’s both solid, easy to use, and cheap.
A compressor is indeed, in my opinion, highly recommended.

Thanks for the feedback! I was hoping that could be a solution, but I wasn’t sure if it was enough or if I needed a proper dedicated limiter.

a ground loop would be the true culprit. The original poster mentions that they used a reliable USB cable/hub to charge a number of things. I suspect the problem isn’t in the reliability of the one hub, but in the fact that they are all being charged off the same thing.
