Balanced cables

hi all…

finally i can make a real decent addition to this forum!

i just bought balanced cables and plugged these between my focusrite 2i4 and my Yamaha HS8

now my speakers are L O U D E R ! noticably!

bought them because I had motorbooting / helicopter issues … and somewhat hiss / noise / unwanted drones stuff …

will wait some more before I comment on the latter issues …

love you all guys here in the forum!

brand: peak cordial balanced plug connection com 2.5 VV 2.5 meters … picked them up from a berlin store called just music, was 15 euro each …says Neutrik on the plugs

I’m thinking that if you use unbalanced cables to connect a balanced source and destination, that might short out one side of the connection resulting in a 6dB loss.

for correct bal->unbal cables it’s normal to common the out of phase connection (often referred to as the ‘cold’ - usually Pin 3 of an XLR, or the ‘Ring’ on a TRS jack ) to the Ground ( Pin 1 of the XLR, or the sleeve of a TRS jack ) - this stops the level loss. Just solder a little jumper wire from the cold to the ground.
