Hy so i own a rytm MKII and love the Workflow. But dont love the sound especially of the Kick. So i tried sampling a 909 BD and the faktory BD from Digitakt (wich I love) . But playing just the sample on the rytm comes nowhere near the original. It laks of punch and has even a bit of a different tune
It just sounds dull. It doesnt matter if i load the sample or record it. It just doesnt Sound the same.
Syn and Filter are turned off.
Any ideas what im doing wrong.
Maybe someone could try it and See if he has the same experience?

Match levels as good as possible, check if any scenes are active, check the compressor…lots of ways to influence the sound on the Rytm…
Don’t set sample level to 127, try lower settings around 64 and compensate with amp volume.
What do you mean by filter is turned off?

The sample will always travel through all these analog circuits whereas on the Digitakt it’s purely digital. Hot sample levels can create some colouration (I guess from driving the filter), but by turning the sample level down you should be able to get a clean signal.
Also the Digitakt has this slight high freq eq bump always present on the output - I never had a DT so no idea if that could have an influence. Some kicks have transient click/noise way in the upper mids, but either way just a matter of some high shelf eq.
I did sample a lot of stuff not only digitakt also roland r8 and tr8. And every sample Sounded so different than the original. Cymbels and hihat lost this airy breath and crunch. And Bass drums just sounded super different.
I just got in the studio and tried sample Level around 64 and the result is soooo good i could cry. THANKYOU
Its just sad that the overall Volume is a little low now but i can live with that…
Yeah the AR is kind of a beast which you have to learn to tame… the thing can sound quite clean at lower levels, but easily goes into dirty and distorted when you push the levels too much.
Personally I love the sound of samples getting some coloration by going trough the analog filters with some drive, and some distortion on the master. It gets into old mpc/sp1200 territory, though with its own character.
Its defenetly a great option to have. But already having the sound you want and not getting it out of the machine can be super frustrating…
