Bad idea to put a Syntakt in a case?

I’ve been thinking about putting a DT and ST in a case like this.

It would fit nicely with batteries and cables already connected.

My main concern is the heat of the ST. I could put spacers below + on the sides to give it some breathing room, but yeah, it’s a hot piece…

Is it a bad idea or are others doing it already?
I tried searching but mostly found travel-setups, but I would like to avoid removing them from the case completely.

I think it would run too hot in a case.

Over time it will increase fatigue of the components. Having it next to the DT will soak off some of the heat but I don’t know if that’s a good thing. For a while I’m sure it would be fine though, long run who knows.

Elektron says that the heat ST produces is normal and won’t damage the machine in the package as designed, but closing off the sides and bottom will leave excess heat with nowhere to go but up, or into anything that might be around it for heat dissipation, just something to keep in mind.

If it was me, I’d do it.

If you upgrade to a case that has three spaces, you can do sous vide in the third slot.

This is like a straight line in a Winston Churchill comedy sketch but I do not have the talent to deliver the punch line.

I have an ST, DT 1 and 2, Octatrack (in differing combinations at different times) in a case. At home though, i remove most of the foam, I just pack with foam when I take it out to play.

You have just reminded me that, when I was a child in Ontario well back in the last century, there was a quite violent game called British Bulldog that we played. When I recently watched a bit of rugby (which I do not understand) it reminded me of that, but our game lacked nearly all complexity. We even played it indoors, in a narrow cabin, at our Boy Scouts meetings. Totally barbaric.

Anyway, I would not play a DT from a foam case, let alone an ST, but I may be excessively prudent. I vaguely remember some quotes about testing temperatures, around the time of the ST release, that were surprising, and would argue in the other direction. You could always ask Elektron what they might recommend.

and yet you’re so well adjusted.

Purely illusory, I assure you

I think it would work out fine if you use spacers. Not sure how tall spacers there’s room for in that case, but if you can fit 1.5 - 2 cm I would do it. Ample room for the heat to dissipate.

Note that the Syntakt actually goes out of tune on the analog tracks when the temperature isn’t stable.

I don’t think putting it in a case with spacers will create temperature fluctuations?

If there is a worry about overheating, measure the surface temperature of the Syntakt when it’s free-standing (after it has stabilized). Then measure the surface temperature in the case. If there’s any deviation, increase the spacer dimensions.

There will be a longer ramp-up time before the tuning stabilizes.

I don’t understand. Longer compared to what? If there isn’t suffifcient room around the unit for cooling, I guess it will take less time to warm up? It will reach target temperature in less time.

But my main point is to secure sufficient space so that it acts just like when it’s free-standing.

I had my Syntakt in a pedal board type case for awhile. I left a bit of space all the way around it and it was fine. I ran it all day every day at home to compose and practice but during that period my longest sets out in public were all 30 minutes. So perhaps a three hour set in the middle of summer in direct sunlight would be a bit much but I doubt ‘normal’ conditions would present much problem.

How about something like a heat sink below the ST … ¯(°_o)/¯
