Bad Gear…ALL SYSTEMS GOOOO!
the ambient one seems like it might be cool but luckily it’s never available
other than that i feel pretty grateful to never be tempted by any of the sonicware stuff
i know it’s a minor thing but not being sold with the power supply is definitely a weird move
I can get over this with guitar pedals because the expectation is you’re using a pedalboard power supply, but for anything else this drives me up the wall.
He’s right about the intro tune, I was immediately and severely unimpressed
For what it’s worth, I briefly had the Ambient 0, and cannot express how much I hated it ![]()
Everything but the intro tune on this Texture Lab thing sounded kinda cool to me though
Oh my god and oh my stars… I was about to go off on my old rant about this on the YouTube app on iPad, thought eh, let’s just give it a try, in the spirit of fairness…
Space to pause seems to be working again as expected, without having to touch the screen between every 3 or 4 pauses…. I swear as recent as 2 days ago it was still doing the nonsense behaviour!
I reckon it’s been around 2 years that the previous behaviour of every press of the space key triggering the play/pause action being disabled or broken, to now seeming to be working again.
Youtube next bad gear?
Delete it
use Safari. Normal keyboard shortcuts work, and if you’re not currently paying for YT Premium, extensions exist to make life easier…
I thought the same. Granular is far from do-it-all type of synthesis, but what it does is quite unique and it’s great to have it in the arsenal.
If I’m being honest, I never thought that the proteus sounded bad, it’s just a dated sound at this point. If I’m being perfectly honest, I think that I must mentally tune out these sounds when I hear them because I just watched the entire episode, and I can hardly remember anything about the jams other than the genre.
A built-in 90s-pass filter. Convenient.
I really appreciate these tutorials in the Bad Gear style and feel like this is a great choice given his popularity. He easily cold’ve pivoted to pushing new gear on to his subscribers, but instead shares his knowledge.
Wow, this thing really sounds digital, cold, alien, crystalline, wavetable-y… I love it. Never heard anything this cool from Hydra or Modwave. Jams are great too.
Argon8 is my goto synth for digital smooth. I actually like the ‘limitations’ of it, which I usually don’t (I usually think people who like limitations are self-medicating their purchase decision to have something that doesn’t do what it should do).
But with Argon8, it does what it ‘needs’ to do, and at its price point I wouldn’t expect it to do a ton more without dropping something I really, really like about it: the build. It’s metal. It’s heavy. I love the keybed (it’s actually my favorite even over Nord Wave or Quantum).
It’s sounds wonderful and plays wonderfully, so… good synth, particularly for the money.
I don’t do the menu diving for complicated things though. I use the app for complexities. Don’t use the sequencer/arp either… Midicake ARP works perfectly for all my arp needs, frankly, an almost every instrument that has its own.
Glad he did an episode on it. Modal needs the money and he just sold 50 of these for them.
