this was by far the best, loudest and pristine show I ever saw. Absolutely incredible.

Saw them in Berlin and Leipzig as well, all killer shows but Manchester had by far the best sound.

First time England as well, has been a great weekend with that little rave after ae, Dalek/Radian at Islington mill last night, currently in Liverpool, feet sore like fuck but happy.

Saw them last year in Washington DC. I was little disappointed that they were only using just a Macbook and some controllers.
I was hoping to see some Elektron gear being used by them.

not sure if you know: Autechre had their extensive Elektron phase from Untilted (2005) thru Quaristice (2008) and used MD/MnM on all the live shows in this period, at least Sean was heavy into that I think. There’s a bunch of great bootlegs from this period, check out Glasgow 2005 and Hemsby 2007 (similar sets really, but evolved). 2008 tour also sounds like Elektron based but there’s no decent recordings around.

they got bored and moved on tho, tbh their computer based stuff since Exai leaves the Elektrons very much in the dust… this new set even more so, it’s quite groundbreaking tbh. Insanely detailed sound design, and not exactly step-sequencer-like composition.

Yeh I figured as much. Wishful thinking on my part to see them use some Elektron gear to play some of their older stuff.

I just hate seeing all laptop shows. I’m not against artists using laptops live. I just have issues when it’s the only thing being used.

I read in several interviews that they use Max/Msp only now, didn’t touch the elektrons for years and didn’t buy any new hardware. I think it’s just Max since Oversteps. I agree with you their new stuff (Exai, Elseq and livesets) are groundbreaking and mindblowing and I have no idea what their “songwriting” could look like…

Agree when someone’s using a laptop to play 4/4 files or more so to Dj but when the output is genuinely next level, I don’t mind what the tools are. I find The sound experience transcends beyond the instruments used at that level.

Also I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face so couldn’t comment exactly what was used. Genuinely lights out.

Yes it was. Very inspirational.

It absolutely does not matter what equipment is being used.

HOWEVER, having said that, I approached Sean after his set (nice guys, just straight up anymans) and asked him how they do so well “getting outside the sequencer”. He said “just build your own.”, they have just Max and laptops, and “good converters” At which point I got nervous I was imposing and said my goodbyes. Should have asked which converters

Anyway goes to show one can make bliss on something so simple (though, granted, theyve cut their teeth on a lot of things over the years).

ah neat you caught them - felt like they shut down the venue rather quickly after the show…

had a quick chat with Rob after the Berlin show, he seemed pleased with the tour and yea, just a guy lol. Also didn’t wanna be holding him up too much (Stingray was playing the aftershow party) but would have had so many questions!!!
