I’ve been in heavy lurk mode here since I got my first Elektron piece (A4!) a few months ago. This forum has been a huge boost and I’d love to meet some of you in rl.

I co-host a free electronic music makers meetup/event called Synapsis at Empire Control Room every 4th Wed. We do workshops from 7-10ish and then performances until 2.

This month (tomorrow!) Inflatable Robot is doing an Octatrack workshop and then a crazy all hardware set later. He has some solid OT vids you can check on youtube:

If you’re around it would be good to chill and this night would work to get a regular Elektron meetup thing going.

This looks interesting especially being someone who has been looking for more of an electronic music scene in Austin.

How exactly does it work though? Do you bring gear to play/jam? Or is it more of an observe than participate kinda thing?

Yeah, no open jam sesh. it’s a really informal thing but we book them in advance to curate a bit of a vibe for the night. It’s still all over the place though. In a good way.

If you’re interested in playing come hang out and let’s talk. The next couple months are booked but we’re always looking for new performers to have through. And if you’re new to performing or new to the scene that’s great. We have a friendly, supportive crowd. We try to book a good mix of new and established performers to keep it fresh and still get folks out. Playing there is a lot of fun. The sound system is killer and their visual setup is one of the best in town.

And they have an arcade by the bar.

No food but there are some good food trucks half a block away. The venue does have a solid bar.

i wish this was during the weekend, but i’m sure the venue is harder to get then.

i’d like to check it out next event, is it pretty consistent with every 4th wednesday of the month?

Yeah, we have the date locked in for a while. I know Wednesdays are kinda tough but if we did it on a weekend we would have to make a bunch of compromises to draw a crowd to keep the venue happy.

Hope you can come through sometime. I checked your jams and I dig.

We’re also doing a chill day with a bunch of local crews on May 10th. We brewed a bunch of beer for that and we’ll have crawfish or something else in the boil if we can’t get crawfish. I’ll post a link to the fb event here when it goes up.

Awesome, sounds like a blast. I need some more like minded friends who make electronic music. I might have to make a FB account just to see when y’all are having your things.

Also, do you have to RSVP to get in for free or can you just show up?

Sorry, dude. Got internet disappeared for a minute there.

It’s always free free. No rsvp or anything like that necessary to get in. The workshops aren’t set for this month yet but the performances are and they’re solid.

We bumped the May 10th thing to the 17th to avoid Mother’s Day. Something is getting boiled. Hopefully Crawfish. And we’ll have beer. It’s a free thing too. The idea for that is to get together for a chill Sunday hang every quarter. Cross pollinate ideas and stuff. I’ll post the details in the next couple days when they’re finalized.

If anyone knows of any good elektron heavy artists playing in Austin throw a link up here. I’ll try to come out and meet up with any of you guys. That’s probably a good way to get some momentum going on something like a meetup group.
