My interface is not compatible with yosemite so I’m looking into getting one of the above.
I have heard great things about the motu, but I thought the behringer with an all in one mixer/audio interface might be an excellent idea too. I could sell my mixer and save on desk space. It’s also a little cheaper.
Any advice from folks who have tried either would be much appreciated:)
that said, motu is of a much higher quality pedigree than behringer. ive never found a behringer product that was superior to anything costing a mere 10% more, speakers, mixers, guitar pedals . . . in every case the better option is to spend the [negligible] extra money. others may disagree, but i worked part-time in a music store for a few years in college and have consequently had alot of hands-on with many products in this price range.
I can’t bring myself to entertain Behringer after they’ve bought out & ruined Midas. (Klark Technik). Kidderminster will never be the same!
Looks like they’ll do the same to Lake, TC Electronics & Lab Gruppen!
F###ing Music Group are gonna end up owning everything!!!
I own a MOTU 828 mkII since 2004 and it’s working correctly without any fails. In fact I bought a second hand one recently and I could cascade both interfaces. Previously to that, I connected a Behringer ADA 8000 via light pipe ADAT and all the inputs are working fine. Go for the stable and durable hardware with a real support. MOTU developers has offered updates for all their hardware at their web page.
I just threw this out here in the other active interface thread, but I’m a big fan of the MR816x from Yahmaha / Steinberg.
I went through a couple audio interfaces, included a Black Lion Motu device. I can’t remember the model, but something decent. Somehow I still wasnt satisfied and tried the MR816x, which had a good reputation on gearslutz. It’s great, I moved on from thinking about audio interfaces (aside from thinking about more ins, maybe with a daisy chained unit, which it can do).
They are not sold new any more, but I’m sure you can find them.
Though I’ll probably end up going for the ultralite mk3, I reckon I’d ideally prefer something with more inputs if I could afford it in the future, so as to allow me to record all individual elements of my live jams for later processing.
Ideally but not essentially, down the line, I’d like to have:
MONO:
2 x mono channels for 2 x mono synths.
3 x mono channels for individual outs of MD.
3 x mono channels for individual outs of MnM.
STEREO (also could use two monos as a stereo pair):
2 x Stereo channels for OT (Main out & Cue out).
1 x stereo input for MD
1 x stereo input for MnM
Does anyone have experience of using interfaces like that and if so does the audio quality/latency suffer from recording so many tracks at once?
Also, so many audio interfaces say things like 16 in and 16 out, but only reach such numbers by using their spdif/adat extensions. Are there any that actually have 16 jack ins that don’t cost the earth?
Sorry to go off on a wee tangent from my original query.
The AVB was too pricey for me. Looks sweet though.
I figured I’d prefer to have 16ins to capture as many individual tracks as possible from live jams so I’ve ordered a used Motu 828 mk3 at a good price. Now I’m hunting for a used behringer ADA8000 to run into it.
Not thrilled about the prospect of using a virtual mixer, but it’s space saving at least.
