Yes, it has 2 sample osc, plus 2 regular VA osc… it blends between natural/acoustic instruments and synth sounds really well; I’ve got a feeling the Minifreak will have the same capabilities now.
Looks like it’s been removed for now; interesting though!
oh… summarized - 8 new engines, all of them sampling/granular based.
no vocoder
I wonder how much memory does minifreak have for samples.
I was really hoping for the vocoder! Ive been trying to sell mine for a little while, but i guess its ok that it didnt sell.
Why did I miss the video
Edit:
If there are 8, that makes 4 more sample/granular engines than are available on the Microfreak as of its 5.0 FW. Maybe some Mini-exclusive engines? Or could be a 6.0 for the micro soon?
Does that mean the V version has been updated too?
Yeah. It’s a very boring filter that you can’t overdrive. I think it would have made way more sense to make the whole thing digital and give us 12 or 16 voices of polyphony instead. Or have it be multitimbral or something. The analog filter restricts the synth without adding anything to it. I’ve definitely heard digital filters, including elektrons, that sound better to me.
there are digital filters on the minifreak, too. they sound quite good, there also is a comb filter. you just have to sacrifice one of the oscillator slots to use them.
they were showing rhythmic granular engines. does the microfreak have those?
edit: unlisted video is still there it seems, they just took it off the playlist:
DONT USE in the video name is definitely because they forgot to mention the vocoder engine, right? right??!?!?
The 3.0 plugin update is available in the Arturia Software Center app. Just downloaded it.
I prefer the MF analog filters over the minibrute 2 ones
This is the only reason I’ve held onto my Microfreak. If this has the same engines plus some I can finally consider making the upgrade.
Firmware 3.0.0 and manual are now available for download…
3.0 downloaded and installing now
I LOVE my MicroFreak but the Stella edition with V and now 3.0 firmware is very tempting…
Yeah, I know that. And I do agree they sound good and I’d argue that they are better than the analog filter. It’s frustrating that an oscillator slot has to be used up in order to use one though.
I would have preferred a digital filter with different algorithms and modes (like the Hydrasynth) in a dedicated slot rather than the analog filter which can never be changed out.
I think I like the Minibrute 2 filter more but it’s also pretty underwhelming. I do think the magic of that comes from cranking the resonance and then turning up the brute factor which makes weird shit happen.
At least on Minibrute 2 though, if you don’t like that filter you can buy a eurorack module to replace it.
Edit: another thought I had with the analog filter is it also limited the engines from being in stereo. I’m pretty sure there’s no stereo engine or panning and the analog filter is going to be the primary reason why that would never come.
Yeah this update looks dope tho
Shame you can only select the sample engine on oscillator 1, giving the you can already do this on the Microfreak the whole point of the Minifreak is to use it for its expanded sound design, I hope they add the sample engine to Oscillator 2 so we can blend different samples on this synth, not sure why they’ve done that?
