It’s such a good synth for taking a sound and playing it - turning knobs and getting something musical out of it. Noodling / jamming, whatever you want to call it. I’ve got a few songs that I’ve written now based on single takes from the MF
I’m still waiting for the Noir edition. I refuse to buy anything from Arturia that isn’t Noir.
Praises from Vitalic
Hahaha. Yeah.
I’m hoping to swap out the orange encoders tonight. They don’t fit with my eye-balls.
Can Minifreak take audio from its input and pass to the outputs, unmodified? Like the Roland Boutique’s MIX IN?
I don’t believe so. You can probably get a clean signal from it but it’s still going to be going through the synth signal chain which means it’ll be going through the analog filter which will have some effect on the sound, even if minorly.
Thanks!
Hi,
Made an in-depth review when launched as we contributed to the factory sounds (eh darn self-promotion). But it perhaps could be of use for you: Mini or Maxi Freak? | Solidtrax
Also made a couple of videos that could be of interest:
I read a few times higher up this post how its possible to send scale and chords out via MIDI, but now I’m sat here with the Minifreak, I can’t work out how to get this going.
Shift + Sound Edit to get to Utility menu
then
MIDI -> MIDI Seq/Synth
And then selecting the option with MIDI on the right.
This lets you run the arp and sequencer out as MIDI into the DAW or other gear.
But turning on the Scales menu for example and setting a Minor scale and playing notes on the keys doesn’t transmit a Minor scale via MIDI.
There were numerous people higher up in this thread who confirmed it was possible,
I’m wondering if someone can shed some light.
Trying to get the scales out of MIDI as you mentioned here, this option doesn’t appear to exist, only the option to connect the arp and sequencer.
Is it possible this was removed from the firmware?
Can you confirm how you got the minifreak to output midi in a certain scale?
I just tried this - couldn’t get the Minifreak to output the forced scale from global scale setting… only plays the internal engine in the forced scale. Looked at all the settings, tried all kinds of combinations (midi out before or after arp/seq, even local control on/off etc) - don’t think it’s possible? If someone knows please share!
But you can get the arp to output over midi in the MIDI menu, then MIDI Seq/Synth, the set the midi out to be after the arp.
(I actually came on here to sing the praises of the custom LFO shapes/shaper feature… really loving it… owned a Microfreak for a while, so was thinking hmmm… wanna do X but how? don’t have more modulation slots… then I remembered ITS GOT THREE PAGES of custom slots. Loving this synth!)
This is such a great idea:
In addition, you can create and store two Preset Shaper Waves, one for each LFO, inside
each Preset. That’s useful if you have a Preset that needs a really unusual Shaper Wave
that you won’t want to use anywhere else. It also prevents you from being forced to modify
a User Shaper Wave – which will change every preset you’ve used it in!
It really bugs me when one change affects loads of other patches or setups on a hardware device - too much brain overhead - the Minifreak dispensed with that in this moment!
Yeah. It appears the people who mentioned it outputs midi that’s filtered by the scale setting didn’t know what they were talking about.
There was a few people in this thread who confirmed it. Which seems really strange now.
Arturia have since told me directly that the scale setting doesn’t output via midi.
Yeah that’s what I suspected - come to think of it, I’ve not tried it on the Microfreak… trying it now… and will report…
yeah no dice - doesn’t output forced scales from the Microfreak either. I’ll stick in a feature request on the Arturia forum if it’s not there already cos that’s super useful for layering sounds for live play.
Add your voice and maybe we get it!
The Stellar Editon of the Minifreak is showing up je n several french retailers websites:
I guess the official announcement from Arturia will come later today. It includes new sample playback and granular engines.
I was wondering when they’d port those engines to the Minifreak!
Gorgeous!
