Hey, I’m wondering how you guys go about making arrangements on your Elektrons. I want to try to arrange without the computer (I use Live and Logic, but want to try using hardware only). I’m sure at least some of you do this. Does anybody do this with multiple machines? For example, an AR, MD, and A4? I know they will all send pattern change data to each other. The only method that comes to mind is to designate a pattern bank for a given song and use the patterns for sections. So, for example have A1 as an intro, A2 the next section and so on (on all of the machines).

I hope this makes sense.

Actually, I had set myself a task for today to try exactly this, making more complete song structure with A4 and Rytm, so I’m also interested of any tips!

I have an extra question concerning this (sorry OP, not trying to hijack the thread…):
If I make a song structure, can I play back the whole “song” and live-record for example parameter changes and modulation over the course of “song”? I presume that this can be done, but of course recurring parts get then those changes repeated?

Check out song mode. Unfortunately it’s a bit lacking in features still compared to the MnM and the MD.

The only structure I use in my hardware guise is I start, later I stop. In between I play with as many sequencers, drum machines, groove boxes, synths, bongs and beer bottles as is necessary to make me happy. In my day job I use Logic and do things in regular numbers of bars and have other conventional shit going on, so it’s great to get away from that. YMMV.

there is a thing that I learnt here in the forum:

i can tell the MD if she receives the note c1 then she should play pattern A1 … if she receives the note d3 she should play pattern H02 … can all be mixed…

however I found it to be best to have all patterns line up over several machines
