ARP - new poly mode

How do you guys understand this to work? Am i missing something obvious - if I dont set the arp to ‘legato’ in poly mode it kind of double triggers or something, like its playing the bass note then the chord (could be cool), but I dont think its that - it’s something to do with note length as that can affect it too…

Thoughts?

Did I miss something in the release notes maybe…?

the first event when set to PLY is always a single note, then chords after that (i asked about this, it’s that way for now ! )

Ok so it’s a bug then - it should just play the chord - the legato thing must just be messing with it.
They could have just said it was playing the bass note then the chord (which it might in fact be doing) Roland MC xox style - and I’d have bought that as a feature (Although they’ve a long way to go to beat that 30 year old arp tech).

not a bug, just the way it is, only for the first note if you play a ‘live’ chord, it’s fine sequenced ! - it just reacts to your first note, fast !!

Sounds like a bug to me - I’ve never seen an arp behave this way - what’s the musical benefit? It’s supposed to play a chord, not a note and a chord - I think that’s what the last release notes implied, that the new mode was to support poly(clues in the name).
Also, it behaves the same sequenced - plays at least one single note and then chords.

Sorry guys…i keep on this thread since it’s in the ARP…how do you deal with LEGATO ?

If i have the Arp on and the LEG on, the arp will cut the sound as soon as a a quarter of a bar circa…

The manual also says that even if Arp is off LEG will make something to played notes anyway.

But there is then the LEGATO MODE in Track menu.

Im not a dealer when coming to Legato mode (dont know why, maybe i’ve used it in general with other synths etc, very never)

i also don’t like it, and i’m sure there could be an improvement, you’re right it will do it while you are recording sequencer info (live) but not once it is recorded, which was what i meant - i think you should try to get a response to it, see if there’s any chance it’ll be fixable, put some added pressure on - i’m in !
i think that when the Arp is in PLY mode, it should wait 2 or 3 ms to allow the formation of a chord when entered live, in all other modes the arp should play instantly !

While we’re discussing the arp… Have the NO2-NO4 parameters always only been applied on sequencer steps and not when playing the mini keyboard? Noticed this when playing around last night.

Hey - I sent support a link to this thread, I think this is probably a bug that you’ve found - I also noticed that when recording a held arp onto a empty pattern with the default sound that sometimes the arp will play just staccato and sometimes with a little glissando, but only for the root note !

Not sure what you mean … , the N2>4 params were there originally to allow special arps to be constructed, now, like on OT, it is used to store chords, the values get viewable once the chord is recorded and you can view in grid mode if u hold down the trig (either from Arp page, or looking at minikey leds)

Yeah, I mean when using them for the original special arp purpose (using TRU mode).

If I turn arp on and set NO2 to +12, then hold a key on the mini keyboard it will only play the mini keyboard note.
If I set up a trig with the arp on and param lock NO2 to +12, it will alternate between the original and the octave higher note.

I’d like to set up the offsets and then hold one key to get a specific pattern. Though now that I remember there’s the advanced arp page, maybe this does what I want (can’t check since I’m not at home at the moment)?

well, the graphics page with the arp overlay, certainly does what you want by superimposing a pattern over the underlying arp pattern - so you could drop the arp overlay to two steps long with the second being set to +12 - i think the behaviour you find is reasonable as the live mode always takes preference over an underlying sequence, a handy thing imo !!
