There are times where I program a sequence in my DAW that I want to dump to my OT/MM/A4. Sometimes the sequences are slightly off since I play them live and I want them to stay unquantized (for the OT and A4. What I’ve tried to do is hold down the REC button and then hit play on my DAW, which starts PLAY on the devices. However, that doesn’t arm recording. Anyone have any ideas on how I can do this so that notes aren’t off time?
Any ideas on this?
I don’t do this, but, couldn’t you capture e.g a 64 step sequence as follows
Sync the DAW (and Elektrons) to one of the Elektrons
Pad out the DAW sequence with a 64 step silence
Now all you need to do is run (just play) the Master Elektron, everything gets motoring, now you have time to enable realtime record on all three Elektrons and by the time your 64 step pre roll is about to end the recording will begin on time - all you need to do is hit the master stop button before the real 64 step pattern hits step 65
The issue here may be accounting for DAW latencies, but I’m sure that’s relatively easy to shuffle back and forth to hit the required accuracy
On second thought the pre-roll can be done without changing the Master from the DAW
An alternative would be to stay synced to DAW, loop the DAW pattern and pick three different arm/disarm points for the devices - so you don’t record from the get go
e.g. dev1 arm at end of first bar (disarm 4 bars later, i.e. as first repeat of first bar ends)
similar for dev2 dev3 (end of bar 2 / 3) - so you effectively record the end of each device’s respective sequence before the start and you only need to work on your ninja button timing or do them all individually
Dope ideas. Thanks.
This topic reminds me again just how useful MMC control support on the elektrons would be… A definite feature request from me.
Easier:
Loop the DAW pattern to same length as Elektrons
Synchronise play first, then, Start the recording a little later for each of the three devices, just be sure to stop the loop recording after the desired step count has done one full cycle since starting - it won’t matter when you stop as you will be duplicating re-recordings of the same repeating content - so timing does not matter - just ensure the recording exceeds the pattern length
This seems by far the simplest way on reflection fwiw
