AR with the OT

I’m trying to think of the possibilities by pairing the two up. At this stage I don’t really know how the 2 would interact. Would the OT be used to slave the AR? Can anyone explain how to sync the two?

I basically wanna use the AR to free up all my drum tracks on OT and use it for sample mangling and synth sequencing in sync with the OT.

I’ve never had 2 elektron boxes to use together before.

Personally I use the OT as a master and A4 as slave, as it’s sequencer for other things, it kinda makes sense.

so in your case I’d send transport, clock and maybe program change from the OT to the AR, either using a midi splitter/interface for the other synths or use the thru of the AR

As long as the OT is set to send clock on the AR set to receive it then they will be in sync. Press play on the OT and the AR will start as well. The only time you will bang heads with the sequencers is if you have any set to the same MIDI channel and you have the AR set to receive MIDI data and not just clock. This is basically what I am doing now with the OT as master and MD as slave. The only thing I allow the MD to do is take clock from the OT. I know there is a master MIDI channel on the MD and I can’t remember if I can tell it to not accept MIDI data or if I am simply avoiding using that channel. At any rate I do have many other synths using the MD Thru port and being sequenced from the OT (also no reason I can’t still use the MIDI machines on the MD for this at the same time just once again, different MIDI channels).

Set octa to send midi sync. AR to receive midi sync. Connect a midi cable between octas midi out port and ARs midi in port.
Press play on the octa and they will both start and sync with the octas bpm.
