Hi,

Do you have any tips which is the best way to do sub with AR for livePA? I tend to create just a subby kick drum with long decay to cover the low-end. Would it be better to do sub with another machine (Fm kick machine for example) and layer it with another kick with no low-end? This way i could control the low-end a bit better?

Thanks!

I like to layer the kick and bass tom, then mess with the filters and overdrive to get real monster bass sounds. Samples are always good to tune and layer too!

how about a “boring” looped sinewave sample? You can layer that to any synth sound…

Yes, this.
I often use the BT machine with a slow attack, layered with a single cycle waveform sample of Minimoog or Pulse 2.

P-lock the compressor on the FX track to get things pumping just right.

I have tried p-locking the compressor to pump the bassline and for creating space around the kick. For me it wasn’t very satisfying.

What do you p-lock? Do you p-lock the threshold?

Also to make a bassline you have to program bassline track and the FX track. It would be nice if the LFO of the FX track could be triggered by the trig of the bass.

I experiment with a kick with lowpass filter
Open the resonance extremely and the filter only a little it. The depth can help to shape thr sub

No, think of threshold as “input”.
I’ll either parameter lock the SEQ or the ratio, sometimes both.
The thing about compression is it is 100% program dependent, settings are different every time. What I p-lock, and how I do it are often wildly different from track to track.

Don’t count out the sample playback capabilities of Rytm. My favorite long decay, heavy kicks are actually kicks synthesized on Analog Four, and then sampled for playback on Rytm.

Or layering a sample kick in reverse, underneath a synth kick. Almost blew the Tannoys in my living room doing that.
