AR + sample player for live set

Hey guys, just a thought. I’m absolutely in love with the AR MKII. I’m programme all my beats there. For a live situation I might need something else to play longer sample loops along side AR, could DT be a good choice for that purpose? Cheers!

With the latest update the AR has pretty much become a one box wonder, not to mention the AR can play back samples.

If you want to add another machine just make sure you have a good idea about why you need it and how it would benefit your setup, otherwise its just distracting you from focused AR performance.

For long sample playback and true stereo operation, within the elektron camp your only choice is the octatrack. But using an ot just for playing a few long samps is overkill, so look into alternatives from other manufs.

Thanks mate, I’ll probably need to play more than 8 tracks? And I’m thinking AR can be the dedicated drum machine, while DR (or similar) could handle longer ambient/melodic sounds.

Cheers mate, what would you recommend? One thing I like about Elektron is the power of handling odd time signatures. A lot of my tunes are not in conventional 4/4 3/4.

Really depends on the sort of music you want to make. I have mine paired with an OT for similar reasons. I feel like there is less overlap with the OT as it does a lot more.

Sorry but I dont know what to recommend. If I personally needed to play long samples alongside my rytm, I’d probably use my CDJs or my MPC live, that is if I didn’t already have an OT :diddly:

But none of those products are really ideal if all you need is to press play on a few long samples. Lot of redundancy. Perhaps a smartphone app would be the most fitting choice? Or an MP3 player?

I’m in a nu-jazz trio, and would like to make some backing track (mostly ambient sound and beats) for our tunes. Usually in odd time signatures, and can last up to 10 mins long per tune…

@stutech is right about the OT being overkill for playing backing tracks, the learning curve isn’t worth it if you don’t embrace it imo.

I would also agree that perhaps a smart phone is the better playback device. Especially if its just a backing track and you guys are doing stuff over the top, then that is probably more important anyway.

You could write great backing tracks with any / all 3 machines mentioned in this thread. So i guess I would just leave it up to how much time you want to invest learning a new Elektron / whether or not you want to spend the funds.

Goodluck with your decision :content:

Maybe consider the Pioneer Toraiz SP-16. That sampler has such a nice sound imo.
