hello, I´m trying since days to sync my AR to the DT via midi but after reading carefully all of the possible forums and manuals I´m giving up and trying to write a message here.
Is there any good willing soul out there that could possibly help me out ?
Can you describe what have you tried that isn’t working? What cables do you have?

I´m using a standard midi cable (double checked already if the cable is working fine)
send midi on the AR is ON, tried with several different parameters too. deactivated Receive MIDI on the AR.
Dark time sync switch is set on MIDI/USB
it just doesn´t react at all
I can send midi sync from the AR to the beatstep without any problem tho

yes they are, otherwise I guess the beatstep woulnd´t slave sync with it.
but with the dark time there´s something wrong and i feel like I might have tried everything already.
RYTM MIDI port config:
OUT PORT FUNCTIONALITY selects what type of signal the MIDI OUT port will send.
• MIDI makes it possible for the port to send out MIDI data.
• DIN 24 will make the port send DIN 24 sync pulses. No MIDI data is sent on the port when this option
is selected.
• DIN 48 will make the port send DIN 48 sync pulses. No MIDI data is sent on the port when this option
is selected.
The DARK TIME uses 24 pulses/quarter note.
Maybe wrong setting?
I believe MIDI clocks at 24ppqn. DIN sync is a pre-MIDI standard IIRC. DIN 24/48 simply defines the ppqn for DIN. I read the Dark Time manual as well and I didn’t think it was referring to DIN sync in that section.

You’re right, I confused something.

Can the Beatstep set the tempo for the Dark Time?

just tried and no, niether beatstep pro can set the tempo for the dark time. but AR manage to set the tempo for the beatstep pro. So I guess the problem is actually something in the dark time and not in the AR
From the data you’ve been able to share, i infer the same. Maybe the Dark Time needs to be in a certain mode?

on the dark time manual is only written that turning the little switch to midi/usb it would turn it into a sync slave. it shouldn be more complicated than this, it´s a relatively easy machine. (3.3.3. MIDI CLOCK in the manual). it takes and send midi clock at 24ppq I´m keeping on trying anything but no reaction at all
Do you have DIN MIDI and USB connected to the DARK TIME? The manual states this is not good.

Just tried this with a MK1 AR and I was bamboozled at first, until I realised that in the Port Config page of the Global settings, the Output To parameter was just set to USB. Changed that to include MIDI and the AR is now clocking the DT just fine. So maybe check that (not sure if your Beatstep is being connected using MIDI or USB).
My AR MIDI settings were set to send & receive for both clock and transport.
If that doesn’t work, does the Beatstep sync to the DT OK? Does the DT sync to the AR using USB? It would be useful to try the DT with a few other devices to determine if the problem is universal or just limited to the AR/DT combo.

In sync setttings of AR:
clock receive ON
clock send ON
transport receive ON
transport send ON
prog ch receive ON
prog ch send ON
PORT CONFIGURATION
turbo sped OFF
out port func MIDI
thru port func MIDI
input from MIDI+USB
output to MIDI+USB
output ch
pad dest int+ext
pressure dst int+ext
mute dest int+ext

one track per channel in the channel settings,
track fx, perf channel and auto channel are OFF
prog ch in ch AUTO
prog ch out ch AUTO

Just replicated all those settings (most were already the same) - still works, I’m afraid. As I say, though. this is a MK1, so maybe someone with a MK2 would be more useful… Have you checked the DT with other gear, and over USB with the AR?

There is also a Modwiggler thread where someone was advised to run the firmware udpate on the DT, as this resets the OS - and it seems to have worked in that instance, so probably worth a shot: Dark Time simply stopped working - help? FIXED! - MOD WIGGLER

thanks a lot, I´m going to try out this too
