Apps most similar to HW grooveboxes?

This is so cool. Is that you can assign keys to all 16 x 4 samples? Can you switch between sampling, sequencing and mixing pages using keyboard too? @Mistercharlie

for me — Drambo, BAM, GR-16.

BAM is cool because it’s available for desktop as well, and it’s not a DAW.
so when i want to sketch something, not to stack plugins for half an hour before i even start — BAM is my choice on desktop too.

GR-16 is my groovebox of choice when it comes to iPhone – it’s just more convenient on a small screen.

You can switch between sample banks with the [ ] keys, between screens (sampler, sequencer, mixer/FX) with tab and shift+tab, and lots more. All here:

You can even use “musical keys” like in Ableton and Logic.

I sometimes hook this up to the Push via ADAT, to sample back and forth. I also sometimes use a nanokontrol for controlling the FX sliders, which is fun.

Got it thanks

After looking into all options everyone suggested, GR-16 might offer the most hardware groovebox experience.

Once other apps throwing their almost full screen sequencers, they don’t feel like hardware at all. So I believe people enjoy using Polyend Play, Deluge, Launchpad Pro or other hardwares with all the buttons together forming a large sequencing area are not typical hardware lovers.

I will give GR-16 a try. Thanks again for all the input.

Just different use-cases.

No rule that loving hardware means accepting certain limitation over others. Hardware is hardware and thankfully there’s a shit-ton of options to choose from.

it is very strange when individuals expressing their individual ideas, there is always someone jump out and saying universal script like no rule, just different, etc my mum is a woman style of always correct phrases.

What part is strange?

Probably will never forget the name of that one.

actually I wonder what’s going on with Werkbench, can’t seem to download the iPhone version to my phone, not compatible I guess but the iPad version in the App Store is saying can’t be reached from my region… still have the app on my iPad though.

Doesn’t even show up here in the AppStore.

LinkedIn says the dev is in Brooklyn and list werkbench as 2010-present, so maybe it’s just an development hiatus or something

After a week with GR-16, the most different experience is I cannot see all notes I sequenced at once. I now understand why the app named “groove” rider and why certain devices are called grooveboxes.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing just I have some hard time telling what chord proression I sequenced. If I only work on one song everyday it is okay. Coming back after a month? I can only carry on by ears.

Is anyone using Groover Rider 2?

Is there no thread for it.

A few people have been talking about it in the iPad software thread.

I have it and I think it’s a big improvement on GR16 however I still think Drambo is the king of Groovebox apps on iPad.
