Have you tried version 2?
Think he’s all sorted now but it was crazy slow download speeds coupled with constant failed installations requiring re-downloads.
I have had some bother with NI stuff in the past but not on the scale he encountered. But, all good now I think. Now time for me to go back to trying my best to resist these new machines
I always found trying to do to many at once made it crack a poop.
I like how it updates software to versions not compatible with the os it’s running. They don’t do basic checks.
V2 looks nicer but I’m still not aware it can uninstall anything.
This is still the most inexcusable shortcoming of Native Access. It will gladly help you fill your SSD with gigabytes of Kontakt libraries, but the moment you want a bit of that space back, you’re on your own.
Thanks for sharing, this is useful.
I’m looking to get a new Mac Mini M2 Pro soon, but had to check if the M1 Max Mac Studio may be the better option - I’ve watched lots of YouTube videos on performance comparisons and am clear on the Mac Mini being the better option.
Think I’ll go for 32gb ram and 1tb ssd (faster speed than the 512gb option), then get an external NVME enclosure to keep sound libraries, as already have spare NVME drives hanging around.
Has anyone else gone for an M2 Pro Mini yet?
do you use any spectrasonics apps, and if so are you keeping those on an external drive or just running them from your internal drive?
Hi - yes, I use Omni/Tril/Key. I’ll probably install the main software on the internal drive and the sound library on an NVME TB4 external drive.
So after selling a load of stuff and promising to save I ended up spotting a 2023 MBP 14 that was less than a month old and with 8 cycles on it for about 33% off the retail price of a new one. So…
Just arrived and a few things I’m immediately happy with. The keyboard is significantly better than my 2018 MBP, the 14 isn’t much smaller screen wise vs the 15, the battery is noticeably better even after some simple use and just installing things today, screen feels sharper/brighter and everything is zipping about as I’d hoped. A lovely machine so far.
Can anyone recommend a TB3 matrix or hub, if i want to share my TB3 audio interface between two computers ? maybe not at the same time, but possibly have like a Y tb3/4 solution?
Theres is this caldigit device - could multiple computers use it at the same time?
windows is officially supported on arm now, I really wonder if it’s good enough to play some games…
If anyone has been waiting for Lindell plugins to be Silicon Native, they appear to have gotten a stealth update…
I just went to install the new compressor (Distressor clone), and checked the Silicon Native checkbox, and the Lindell plugins were showing up. Thought it might be an error, so downloaded them to test in Ableton 11 (non Rosetta), and they work!!
Anyone having issues with soundtoys plugins? It’s crashing my studio one now and then when I load a plugin
I was getting cpu spikes in bitwig with one instance of little alterboy the other day. Took me a while to narrow it down that plug-in but no crashes. As soon as I disable it the cpu spikes went away.
I just ordered the M2 Pro mini last night. I went with 32g of Ram as well, but opted for the smaller HD. I didn’t realize it was slower or I might have reconsidered, but I am very much doing this as a hobby so I’m not sure I’ll notice the difference much. I just wanted something to replace my 2011 Mac Mini and 2015 MBP. It was definitely time…
I just ordered mine yesterday - went for the 12core cpu, 32gb ram and the 2tb hard drive.
I’m sure you won’t notice the hard drive difference too much, unless you’re using synths like Omnisphere.
I watched this YouTube video last night and this guy really puts the m2 pro though it’s paces with Logic :

I’m mostly doing midi sequencing, audio playback with some effects, recording 2-4 audio tracks via audio interface or Overbridge, and maybe playing around with VCV. Definitely nothing crazy, and my track counts are usually pretty low.
I think I should be good. I considered the Studio, but figured longterm the M2 was a better buy.
You’ll be absolutely fine. I gave my brother my old Mac Mini 2012 quad core i7 3 years ago and it was still fast in his eyes - then just upgraded him to a M1 Mac Mini last week, which has 1tb ssd and 16gb ram. He uses his in the same way you describe and said it’s lightening fast. I think the M1/M2 Mac’s will be more than enough for any music producers for possibly years to come.
I’ll let you know my experience when it arrives
