Anyone with a Rytm want to put together a really compressed

…basic techno beat.

I’d really like to know what the Rytm sounds like in a pounding techno context. Just a huge 4/4 kick drum plus some basic hats and snares/claps. Then push the compressor really hard.

It’s not the only thing I would use the Rytm for obviously, but I’d just like to hear it, instead of glitchy IDM beats. I would like to know if it can do instant, release-quality techno without external processing.

Alternatively, if such a track/video exists somewhere I’d like to hear it.

Can you give an example of the sound you’re after?

Something like what Shed does, for example.

Might not be exactly what you were looking for, but it convinced me of the AR’s techno capabilities. (Not that I really doubted it, but still.)

I think you will hear some nice things, because i heard a lot of interesting basic machine with few tweaking (of course Dataline is a master…)

Also, a lot of artists don’t use compression a lot, they just eqing fine, design in the context so sounds really sit together etc…

You know that’s why all people said it’s RAW :joy:
And for me SHED, WAX etc… all that is RAW, fine tuning and EQing, some distortion to get dirt… not too much compressor. (Maybe Transcient compression to get some sounds cutting thru the mix…) But if you want to Keep your bottom end RAW and Dirty pay attention to compressor.

But that’s my observation in my learning curve, maybe i’m wrong.
But for me the Key is sound design in the context, Not too much compressor (maybe New York in signal over-processed in percent reinject in the mix)
Tape Saturator and Distortion for sure.

Yep the second one is with lots of distortion. First one is just plain with mild compression. The examples could be mixed alot better though, it was just a quick test.

Just made a simple “bread and butter” techno beat that turned into a bit of a distortion and compressor playground. A little into the video below I start toggling between a 3x3 grid of scenes where the rows correspond with different distortion amount levels and the columns with different compressor dry/wet mix settings. Like this:

By the way, it took a bit of effort to get each of these nine distortion amount and compressor mix settings at roughly the same volume levels so that you can actually compare them without loudness differences tripping you up.

Especially increasing the distortion amount has a huge impact on the output level of the AR, but also getting the markup gain of the compressor at the correct level so that you can judge the effect of different mix levels properly can be a bit tricky.
