Anyone travel internationally with Elektron gear?

I’m going to be in London for a couple of weeks on a business trip. I am considering bringing my Digitakt to have something to do in the hotel in the evenings, but was wondering if it’s a pain going through customs these days with a strange “device”.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is it a pain?

Used to travel extensively worldwide with an Octatrack, OP-1 & sometime a Little Deformer, never once had an issue.
You’ll be fine.

I took several times two octatracks (+ other gear) in a cabin luggage for international gigs, not a problem. worst case they do a swipe on your luggage to detect bomb powder but thats all and it takes 2 minutes. so all good as long as you’re not a terrorist

Thanks. So would you recommend carry-on or in my checked luggage?

Well I’m super careful with my gear and i don’t trust the whole airport system enough to put my precious stuff in the hold so I always take a cabin luggage. Also a great way to limit the amount of gear you take for the gig and make the most out of what you have.

Are you okay with it being out of your sight and possibly not making it onto the plane, or getting sent to the wrong airport?

If so, checked undercarriage is right for you!!!

Travel with OT to London, carry on only. Brightens up the hotel room no fucking end.

I used to live in Holland and work in spain, So travelled a lot. In those days, I had a Ni maschine. It was checked for explosives many time. When looking at the maschine in my hand luggage, I was taken out of the line. They brushed the maschine with some kind of special brush… and then given back. no problems at all

A friend of mine who pops up on the forums here and there, Cygnus, was touring last year and had his gear stolen. If it’s as small as a Digitak, carry it on, DO NOT CHECK IT.

Some people design their live rigs around what they can get into a flight case that’s small enough to qualify as carry-on. I’ve seen John Tejada do that with two Elektrons (A4 and OT I think) and an Eventide Space.

They always stop me with my guitar case, “Sir, you cannot bring a rifle aboard the plane.”
Then I show them it’s a guitar.
Then somehow while boarding the plane they tell me again “Sir, you can’t bring a rifle on the plane.” As if I actually got one through security… :joy:
