Anyone Loaded any long samples in yet?

Tonight I’m going to have my first attempt at importing some of my samples into Rytm - real excited to get some of my loops and one shots in there.

Just wondering if anyone has tried with longer samples yet - drones, pads, atmospheres, build ups etc.

Not sure what the longest sample length can be. Anyone have any ideas? Think someone once said a 4 minute sample could be uploaded.

nope - my replacement AR literally just landed ( my 1st had non-functioning pads! ) so I didn’t even get around to sample jiggery-pokery last time.

But after a bit of mucking about to get C6 to play nicely I have just successfully loaded a few 8 bar loops ( my own, from non-finished tracks ) so am looking forward to getting stuck in now… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Even in the literally few hours I’ve had with the AR so far it’s already convincing me that it’s going to give my beloved MnM a run as my favourite Elektron machine…so so good…

speak little
Let’s talk numbers, then 2 MB.

I have loaded long pads and drum loops but found a issue Im hoping someone can give more info. I programmed the drum loop into the pattern and had it working on one track. Put a pad on the second track and programmed some pads. I found the pads will cancel out the drum loop once the pad sample is triggered. If I mute the pad track the drum loop comes back. I am wondering if you can only have one sample playing back at a time.

There are 8 voices and 12 tracks. The pads with the – in between share a voice. Like OH and CH.

oh shit. I did have them on the two pads right next to each other. Thanks for that tip…im gonna try it out tonight…THANKS AGAIN!

I couldn’t load a 8mb sample for some reason. Isn’t the current max like 2.5 mb? And I read they would change this soon.

Sorry, but I need to ask this in layman terms; with your 8bar loops, if you do chromatic or change the tune does the length change. Or will a xxx bpm sample stay the same tempo regardless? does it work like a sk-1 or is it modern?

Muddler, I have got a 4 meg sample to load in the AR. I had a two bar drum loop at 90bpm. Setup the AR to 90bpm and just hit the pad right at the start and the whole loop played just fine. The issue I had with cutout was i put both the samples in the upper right pads right next to each other sharing the same machine. I’m gonna do tests using different pads tonight.

oh sorry that was @xmit who was talking about 8bar loops.
and i’ll have another try soon but I was trying to load a 8mb sample and it just wouldn’t take.

anybody know if I can tune a loop while keeping it the original tempo?!
If not I’ll just try tonight and answer my own question

Hey Muddler. No - the way the AR deals with it’s samples is pretty old skool - you’ve got to manually fit your loops to tempo, trim start/end points, make minute changes to pitch etc. possibly to get the loop to sound nicely.
The AR ain’t an Octatrack.

I’m quite happy with this - my fave ever sampler is the Akai S950 - so I’m quite at home, plus I only sample my own stuff, so it always ‘fits’ if you see what I mean.

Where the AR is very new skool though is stuff like mapping the LFO to start/end points, p-locks, filter stuff etc etc… The actual sample part is simple, it’s all the other Elektron twists that make it cool & I’m happy with that…I never went for an OT because I’m just not interested in ‘serious’ sample work really. In fact I hate it :joy:

OK, first thoughts - C6 is well buggy on my Windows 7 computer - several computer resets required and after C6 simply vanished from view following crashes but not full termination. I’ve had to run WinPatrol to kill it then start over.

I found I had to tweak settings in Rytm to recieveUSB only - wasn’t obvious to me as a newbie but I eventually figured it out.

I find I need to load up C6 first then insert the usb into computer, for best results.

Then sometimes sending something, it fails so resend it and it goes through on second attempt.

Gripes about C6 aside though -

Damn! created a very simple, pretty boring 16 step Sytrus synth riff in Fl studio in about 4 seconds and imported it into my Rytm - then tweaked it to hell and back using plocks and the lfo and filter - it sounds absolutely awesome. Like a 303 bass line but unlike any 303 line I’ve ever heard before.

To get such an absolutely evil synth sound from just a humble 16 step riff hints at amazing things to come.

Love it!

Post a link to it BleepKid. Would love to hear it.

Think I would have jammed it all away be the end of my session - trigs removed etc and replaced with other samples and synth sounds as the mood took me.
