what it says on the tin, or anything else/vst for that matter that can be loaded on a track in ableton for the same purpose?
I could finagle something with follow actions but that’s a work around.

I’m looking for a skipback recording plugin or M4L device too. I’m pretty sure I saw a hint in this forum somewhere to a colorful little floating bar where one could drag and drop from to the DAW timeline.

Yes! There is also Monkey Rewind. IMO more powerful than Bird’s Rolling Sampler due to its MIDI functionality.
